PSA/DNA autographs

When I was a kid I would send cards out in the mail to be autographed. I have quite a few of the old-timers that would respond quickly...although I didn't send out many cards (1952 topps, 61 topps, 34 goudeys, etc), I would often send out the cards such as the "greatest of all time" or the cards of players of yesteryear that were made in the 80s. I know the cards themselves are worth nothing...but am curious if anybody else has ever had any of these kind of cards signed? Are they worth sending to get authenticated? Is there any value in trying to sell them? A few of the players are such as Hank Greenberg, Spud Chandler, Warren Spahn, Whitey Ford, Eddie Mathews, etc. Would it be best to just try selling them as is as opposed to trying to get them authenticated?

For many players, the cost of authentication will eat up most of the card's value...

An alternative is to consign a bunch of them to an auction house, and sometimes they will get it authenticated on their dime. But they won't sell the cards as singles...
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
