Ebay/Paypal Shipping Label

Has anyone had the Post Office charge them a priority mail fee for a package with a preprinted Ebay/Paypal label because the bubble mailer was to thin? I utilized the Paypal shipping service to send a graded card in a bubble mailer via First Class Mail. The Post Office charged the buyer $3.04 additional postage (which I have refunded to the buyer). The local Post Office told the buyer that: "They will charge priority mail because a lot of people are using delivery confirmation rather than certified. And, to avoid the problem in the future, the sender should put something else in the package to make it a little wider."

It seems to me that the PO should only be able to collect the additional .46 if they do not want to accept the delivery confirmation charge associated with the Ebay/Paypal shipping service on First Class Mail items.

  • That sounds ridiculous and I've never had a problem with the prepaid label thru paypal. I ship raw in top loaders in bubble mailers and have shipped slabbed cards as well. Most of my raw even with extra old top loaders surrounding the card won't measure up to 3/4 inch required for DC. I've never had any complaints or returns. I think the buyer is pulling your chain with this story.

    I've heard that is happening more frequently. Stuff a packing peanut in with the cards.

    This happens all the time. Many buyers are getting hit
    with the extra charge when their packages arrive.

    If the package is not 3/4" at its widest point, it has to
    go Priority in order to qualify for Delivery Confirmation.

    Packing peanuts or 1/2 paper towel wrapped in a piece
    of tape (placed at the bottom of the bubble mailer) will
    make the package right.

    The PM at my main station claims that the machine that
    processes the bubble-mailers will not work properly if the
    package is less than 3/4".

    When sellers get caught in this trap, it is appropriate to
    issue a fast refund of the extra fee and an apology to the
    buyer. That ususally saves the FB.

  • Wow, I better start adding stuff to my raw cards.
    Thanks for the info.
