PSA/DNA Question (come on somebody - HELP!)

I have never submitted anything to PSA/DNA, so I have a few questions.

I know that there is a PSA website and a PSA/DNA website. On the regular PSA submission form, it says that you can have an autographed card that is not directly from the manufacterer, you have to use the Autographed Card Grading and Authentication Service. It says that you have the option to have the card graded or just the auto authenticated. That fee is $20. Now, here is my question -

On the PSA/DNA website, there is a fee schedule that is different for different players. For instance - Albert Pujols is $20. Cal Ripken is $30. Mickey Mantle is $75.

Are those fees on PSA/DNA for items other than cards? The reason I ask is because on the PSA site, it says the fee is a flat $20 for a card as long as it has a declared value of less than $500.

So, if I have cards of those three players autograped and not from the manufacterer (say from a show or something) ----- how much for the Pujols card? How much for the Ripken card? And how much for the Mantle card?

Surely, it's not $20 PLUS the fee for the individual player? It does not say that on the PSA submission form.

I wish it was a little more clear. One site says flat $20 and the other says that the fee is based on the player.

HEEEEELP!!!!

I"ve gotten different answers as well, so maybe there is no wrong answer. And no right one either.

If you are submitting a card (ie player trade card) that was either auto'd prior to 1998 or an autograph that was not factory issued you need to submit it under the PSA/DNA level on a PSA submission form. It will cost you $20 per card. You can pick if you want the card to only have the auto authenticated or both authenticated and graded.

I have submitted many cards this way.

Then what do the fees on PSA/DNA apply to? Anything other than cards? So, even a Mickey Mantle auto'd card can be submitted under the $20 submission?

It depends on the declared value.

    "$20 per card
Autographed cards with a declared value under $500.00"

    Thats from the fee schedule.

Something's not right here, or at least still very confusing. It doesn't make sense to me that the authentication fee for an autograph on a baseball card would be $20 while the fee for authentication of the same person's autograph on an index card, ticket stub or check could be as high as $250.

Hopefully, Carol or someone else at PSA will see this thread and provide some clarification.
  • I'll paste a message from carolj for a similar question that I had.

Hopefully this will help as it can be a little tricky in the beginning.

If you send in a licensed item that has been autographed the item should receive the Red Flip. The item will go through PSA/DNA for autograph authentication and then on to the card graders to have the card authenticated and graded. On licensed product you have the choice of With Grade or Authentic Only. If you choose With Grade the card will be graded 1-10. If you choose the Authentic Only option the card will be checked for authentication as well but the numerical grade will not be given and label will say Authentic
N0 (N zero) means authentic only.

If you send in autographed non-licensed product such as a cut or index card you should receive the Blue Flip. This item is only looked at by PSA/DNA since the item is not graded.

Here is where it gets a little tricky.

If you send in an autographed licensed product and choose to have the autograph graded, you will receive the Blue Flip. By choosing to have the autograph graded, the item is only seen by the PSA/DNA crew and is not looked at by our card graders. We are making no comments as to the authenticity or condition of the card. We are only commenting on the autograph itself.

Here is a link to this information on our site. Link

I hope this helps clear this up. If you have any additional questions please contact me or customer service.

    Carol

    I Hope this helps!

To me her letter seems pretty clear. All you need to know is what you want back from psa. If its a card and you want the auto authen. its $20. If its a card and you want the auto auth. and card graded its $20. If its something else and you want the auto graded then the fee will vary.

  • So, this autograph ...

    image

    ... is $20 to authenticate?

    And this autograph ...

    image

    .. is $75 to authenticate?

I don't understand why their would be any difference in price.

That is exactly why I asked the original question. I don't understand why there is a difference.

That part I cant explain. But from all that I have seen in the info on PSA's website. The letter that we have from Carol. My small experince with submiting cards for my FB HOFer Auto card set that is the case. Its $20 to send a "trade" card with an autograph for to be authenticated and/or graded. I have never tried to submit anything other than a card.

As far as I know, yes (EDIT - Actually, it might be $85 - $75 for the fee and $10 for the slabbing). At the November GBSCC show, I submitted an autographed Index card of Wilt Chamberlain for slabbing. I asked the person stationed at the PSA/DNA side of the table if it would fall under the $20 level. He informed me yes, but that it had to be submitted on the PSA/DNA invoice. I filled it out, and handed it on over. When I did, I was informed that it would actually cost another $10 to have the index card slabbed. Amazed that the one question I asked was answered wrong initially, I agreeded to the $30 fee instead, and signed away on the invoice. After the invoice had a suitable time to age, I received an email from Terri Gilbert from PSA/DNA, informing me that Chamberlain autographs were an additional $10 to authenticate ($30 instead of 20), so that it total, it would be $40 to have it authenticated and slabbed. Trying to contain myself (and doing a very poor job at that), I responded that I had confirmed the total with the service rep at the PSA/DNA booth where it was submitted FOR EXACTLY THIS REASON: BEING TOLD ONE PRICE ONLY TO HAVE THE AMOUNT CHANGE LATER ON DOWN THE LINE. The sadly funny part of the ordeal was that I had mentioned to Carol (who was working at the table at that time) that I wanted to verify all of these prices with them in person before submitting them because of previous problems, and here I was running into the same issue again! I ended up getting a response from Laura Rosenberg, director of customer service at CU, informing me that while it was an error on the CSR's side when accepting the invoice, they would waive the $10 fee. That was on 11/29. As of yet, I still haven't received any updates on the submission, although it is interesting to note that while the invoice was actually given to them on 11/04 and the 2 other invoices submitted at the same time were "received" on 11/07, this one isn't showing as received until 12/1, 3 days after the last email from Laura. Feel free to check it out:

    Invoice # 4446532
    Zip 02115

There is no way I would have paid $40 for it to be authenticated, and wasn't real happy about paying $30 for it either. I'd be shocked if it came back as anything other than authentic, since it's already been approved once before. I just more or less wanted it holdered.
