One Ugly Mantle Autograph Card

I don't know about the rest of you, but if I pulled this card, I would have been very upset. For the price you pay they should do better than this.

Topps Sterling Mantle Auto

I certainly wouldn't be upset pulling that card. The cut may be ugly but the card will probably fetch four figures in which case Jim Cramer would shout SELL SELL SELL.

I agree with you, this would be an easy sell. I was just refering to it from a collectors standpoint.

Wow, 2006 Topps (nothing) Sterling? That's one ugly card!

The amount on the BIN is nothing short of delusions of grandeur!

Even a perfect card isn't worth that kind of dough IMO.

But, it is Christmas and anything's possible this time of year.

    Merry Christmas to everyone!

I actually really like the autograph itself being vintage looking.. Looks like some kid years ago got his autograph and cut it so it would layer like that in his scrapbook.. the card design is pretty lame and boring though.

Ugly card but at least it's not the famous "ickey Mant" autograph card.
They got the WHOLE name on this one.

    Garret

Check out the sig on the 52T card. Speaking of vintage auto.

I've actually seen a few of these and authenticated by PSA - an early sig of the Mick will set you back, I believe.

C'mon guys, Mantle autos are *tough* so we need to cut them a little slack. It's true for lots of guys like him. You know, guys that weren't very big stars while they played, lived long before the collecting craze took off and only became famous (and elected to the HoF) after their life. There just aren't that many Mantle autos in the world, so it's nice to see one, no matter the condition.

Is it just me or does it look like they took Mickey's first name from another autograph and pasted it over his last name from another autograph??
  • I think they cut it out of the same scrap book then pasted over

Not really that old. Mantle used to sign in his earlier days without the loops in the "M"'s. He use to cross them. The loops didn't come til later on.

    Pimp On....
Nothing smoother than listening to Bob James and sipping on a glass of vintage Courvoisier! It's PIMPnificent!

Mantle was a prolific signer in the 80's and 90's. His son David even set up a buisness to sell his autos. I think there is a ton of his sigs out there but Topps is probably buying these on the cheap and not being very selective in what they buy. I like the fact that a signed Mantle postcard is like $300 bucks at most but cut it up and put it on a card and you have a 7K card. Well the seller is from Ithaca so hopefully a fellow Cornellian has it and can buy some books with it.
