Carmelo Anthony, being ejected.

Well hockey breaks out on basketball court, any guesses on how many games Carmelo Anthony gets? I say 15 games and a big Fine. LINKimage

Just a hunch but I have a feeling these fines are gonna be big, VERY big. Fighting in the NBA can't be allowed as an option...period.
  • It is too bad that the guys can't be "fired" from their jobs as basketball players. Fines and missing time hurt to some extent but
losing your job would send a much stronger message to cut out this nonsense.
  • Saw this live last night and have it tivo'd.... I'd say he gets at least 15 games - dude threw a straight up sucker punch after things had died down. Why were the starters in for Denver in a blowout? They didn't think a hard foul might come when you're 360 dunking up 20? If Smith isn't in there trying to showboat there is no hard foul. What I saw = The foul comes, it was dying down quickly, then Nate Robinson flies over with little guy syndrome and throws some weird air punch - Smith tried to tackle him and kind of got owned, then threw a cheap shot when he was standing again - he will probably get at least 5 games. Everything is cooling down again when Melo sneaks up and punches Collins in the face, then backpedals as fast as he can... My predictions -

Melo -15 games or more - a running sucker punch then running away after all was dying down.
Robinson - 10 games - instigated much of this, and has a history of this kind of stuff (tries to fight Jerome James in practice last year, for example)
Smith -5 games - could have let NR's air punch go...
Collins - 5 games - 2nd hard foul in two nights, ran after Melo after the sucker punch but retreated from the Nugs reserves....
Jefferies - 3 games for maniacly going after Melo

anyone who left the bench will get a game, and it will be interesting if the league determines Isaih ordered the hard foul - supposedly he told Melo to stay away from the paint late... all in all an ugly incident - good thing nobody goes to the garden for Knicks games any more...

Carmelo gets 12 to 15 games in my opinion.

Nothing like a guy trying to "Rudy Tomjanovich" a guy, then run backwards. What a coward. Absolutely sickening.

As said before, these fines aren't a dent in these guys' pocketbooks. Something else needs done. You know who's more likely to get hurt??? I'm sure there's a middle class dad out there who splurged to buy a couple of tickets to take his young son to a Nuggets game to see his favorite player Carmelo as a Christmas present. And now Carmelo won't be there.

What I don't get is why these basketball brawls seem so terrible. The backlash isn't nearly as bad as a hockey fight, a football fight, or a bench clearing brawl. They NBA incidents seems so much worse, don't they?

The NBA incidents seem so much worse because they are the only incidents that can and do move into the stands and put the spectators at risk of injury and/or involvement.
  • On the basketball brawl last night suspend all 10 players for 15 games each and fine each one 25 %
of their salary plus make the 10 players play as a hockey team against a NHL team then if they start crap (Anthony) and tries to run the NHL player skates them down and beats the crap out of them, or treat it like hockey let the 2 guys fight at center court till 1 drops then eject them for the half game or eject them for the whole game. either way works cause in any sport tempers are going to flair and there will be altercations. No perfect world no perfect answer. Better yet suspend all the players for 10 games and make them wear low cut pink party dresses to each game so the fans can humiliate them.

In football and hockey the football players have protective equipment and in hockey the fans would be sliding all over the ice if they intruded. None of this is true in basketball, the fans are right on top of the players and they have no protection. Its idiotic for them to start a fight, imagine if some drunk fans joined in and worse if any of them were armed in any way. Anthony's sucker punch was idiotic and he should get between 10 and 20 games.
  • I'm truly surprised that none of them pulled any weapons out of their uniforms! That is their style, isn't it?

The NBA is trying to get fans banned *for life* for WORDS and INSULTS.

What kind of suspension do you think these players will get for throwing actual punches?

A slight double standard here? image
