Done! That only took 8 years.

Today I received the last 2 cards I needed for my 1998 Leaf Rookies & Stars set. I had put together most of it back in the day, starting with a full hobby box I bought for $100, which was the most I had ever spent on a box I think, and which yielded none of the key RCs and a nice Larry Walker Longevity. I picked up the Drew in February, 1999 by trading a Bowman Chrome Interstate parallel Randy Moss, some other cards, and I think $30, back when that was a $175-200 card, and the Moss was I think $75 or so. In fact, I got all the big rookies of the time then, except Troy Glaus. After paying $30 for Magglio Ordonez, $20 for Gabe Kapler, $20 for Ruben Mateo, etc., I decided I'd wait for the Glaus to drop back to the $10 range from it's then $30. I had seen him play in a couple games that summer and didn't think he'd live up to the hype. Of course, he's the one guy from the set who really took off from a relatively low point, and I sure wasn't going to pay $200 or so after I skipped it at $30. But, sure enough, prices have softened in the interval, and I picked up his sp'd rookie for a little over $50 a few weeks ago. The other 3 SPs I needed were fairly easy to track down after that, even though they had been tough to find when I had looked before. Bada bing, a complete set. So far this year I've knocked out both my main vintage albatross, the 1975 PSA 8+ set, and this modern one. I think I had set them as 2 of my hobby goals last year, so that's good. I do so love the feeling of starting a new project yet so rarely get around to finishing one. Next year, 1941 Play Ball, 2001 Topps Heritage Chromes and 1994 SP Red Holoviews.

I just need one more A & G mini "a&g back" to complete my two parallel sets (a&g mini and regular mini) .....
If you see #165 Derek Lowe anywhere, please let me know!
Finishing those two parallel sets will mark the first "completed" set for since re-joining the hobby earlier this year.

Congratulations Helio.
It's always a pleasure hearing about what you're doing and I can always rely on you for spot on info about a lot of these kind of issues.
That's quite a big deal! I'm gonna have to throw a party when I complete a set! Not including my perennial, like Heritage.
Good luck on you new sets
and Merry Christmas
