"Spot Review" Submission Question

I'm sending in a 1957 PR68 DCAM Washington for a Spot Review. Looking at the submission form it looks like this would be correct:

Type of Submission: Regrade

Service Level: Other - Spot Review

Is this correct and what is the price for this service?

Lee, I sent a coin in for spot review once and followed Customer Service's Instructions. On the upper right hand corner write and circle Spot Review. This was a free service.

You really don't need to write in Regrade however if you do NOT want the coin cracked out and regraded you need to specify this in large letters on the form. If trying to utilize PCGS' Guarantee then send it in and they'll treat you right.

If you do not, they will crack it out and if possible they'll try to right whatever is wrong with the piece in which event, like mine, the coin could quite easily come back a couple grades lower.

If it truly is problematic it does need to be attended to but you risk the coin being graded lower and quite possibly taken off the market, which would be the right thing to do.

I first learned of this service when I purchased a PCGS 65 semi-key Washington Quarter from a very prominent Big Name Dealer that looked unlike any I had ever previously owned.

I voiced my dipleasure with the fact that it had an overly dipped, washed out look AND had begun to turn a yucky, nasty milky White inside the holder. The Dealer suggested sending it in to PCGS for a complimentary spot review which at that time I was totally unfamiliar with.

What he should have done was take the coin back, refund my money and take care of this spot review himself.

I WAS duly compensated for the coin which is now resides somewhere in a PCGS 63 holder.

If you have a coin that is truly problematic, send it in and PCGS will take care of you and it.

At that time it WAS a free service which I can only conclude fell somewhere under the PCGS Guarantee.

I had a Maine Commem. that turned black in the center of the obverse. I took it to the CSNS show and the lady at the PCGS table told me to write spot review on the submission. There was no charge and PCGS ended up paying me my stated value for the coin.

-and you get the coin back too. I've used spot review on a couple of proofs that turned in the holder.
