My 1977 addiction-I confess

About 18 months ago I was bored on E-Bay and started looking around. Being from St. Louis I saw two Topps 1977 baseball Cardinals for sale in PSA 10 (Forsch, Simmons). Fast forward to today. With today's mail I hit the 25% mark in PSA 10.

I want to quit, honest I do, but I am weak and keep adding cards. A PSA 9 will never do.

Help me, I am sick.

  • nice GPA, but why keep your collection hidden, its the only one on the registry you cant view...

very high standards you have, no psa 9's ....?

    i just made it viewable.

i kept it concealed because i also collect 1966 (#11) and that set is dog eat dog. there is one person collecting that sat who will jack up his snipes intentionally if he knows you need it.

since i have not found that to be the case in the 77's, and isince don't go after every card puting in extragant bids would be a risk for someone trying to make me pay more.

    thanks

All PSA 10 is very ambitious. I say you make it to 50 percent and hit the wall -- bringing 9s into the equation. I just don't see a 100 percent PSA 10 set feasible unless you're a relative of Warren Buffet -- even then, he would not let you spend that much. Good luck!
    Enjoy your collection!

i may or may not make 50% but one thing is for sure, never a 9. i'll sell before that happens.

the two biggest drawbacks are obviously money and trying to get every card graded in 10. there are plenty that have never been graded a 10.

i realize there is wax, vending, cards laying in a drawer still to be graded but it's not like 10's are coming out of the woodwork. in 2006 maybe 250 were graded a 10. that's not even half the set.

funky frank has half the 1978's in 10. that is quite an accomplishment.

  • I think you can do it. There may not be all that many 10's but they will surface. Cards are being submitted every day. Keep it up and you will reach it..........

Stay the course Czar! Anything can be done with enough determination and focus (plus a good amount of cash never hurt image ).
