Memory Lane Auction-1959 Koufax PSA 8

Why is someone going to pay $4200 plus the juice for this card? A 1959 PSA 8 Aaron is over a grand. What is going on. Where will they settle?

Somebody has lost their mind. Those cards sell on ebay in the $400.00 range. chaz

I'm glad someone else noticed this. I had bids on both of those cards, right at SMR - the BP would have put me over, but I was fine with that. Just look at how crazy people are.

Is it possible a wrong bid amount was entered? He may have meant to bid $422 but added an extra zero. I mean the Morrell Meat card is at $1344, a much rarer (and probably desirable) card than the '59 Topps.

Who knows? the 59' Aaron PSA 8 is over a grand. I have a beautiful Aaron 59' psa 8 and I'll sell it right now to anyone without the juice for a grand. chaz

I still haven't figured out WHY/HOW these auction houses get their bids so high. It is just insane.
Looking for a Glen Rice Inkredible and Alex Rodriguez cards

Thought I would bump this thread. Another Koufax PSA 8 just sold on ebay for 1200. 3X SMR. I am still confused at the level of activity. Anyone know about this phenomonon?

I check PSA 8 Koufax cards relatively often and compared to most of his cards the '59 does not come up very often. Nonetheless, I don't know this card is on the rise all of a sudden.

this is a pure guess but maybe for resubmitting for a higher grade. i dont know what the psa 9s go for but maybe they are high enough that some people feel a strong 8 is worth a shot. just a guess.
  • Reggie Jackson 1969 RC just went for $803, last 6 sales were less than $456. Centering was perfect, but so was one of the others!!!
I'm trying to get a PSA 8, but not at that price....

59's are very tough to find centered, but those prices are ridiculous. Lately you can throw SMR out for centered 59 PSA 7's and 8's both.

    $1099

I do not know about the one that went for 4k but Koufax, mantle and Clemente always almost( almost always) sell for more then book, smr or whatever you want to call it.

those 3 are the big ones.

Koufax especially is a very desired card for jewish collectors.

    Good for you.

    Nothing new!

I've been watching auctions (sports, coins, currency) for over 20 years now, and in many of these auctions over the past two decades, certain items just realize some insane "hammer prices".

    rd

edit: A side note: I would not be surprised that a good number of those "auction house participants" never purchased an item off of ebay.

You obviously don't follow Mastro. A safe place, my a**. If you want doctored cards.

I recall reading somewhere they pressed out some creases and such but care to elaborate?
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

They also "cherry picked"consigned collections only to fill in with lesser cards then grade out the mint ones and sell them as well. Sounds like a safe place to me.

You must have missed it. Big thread or two here and at 54. The admission of doctoring/altering came from the horse's mouth.

Mastro and Memory Lane have been getting some bad press as of late. I would be weary of these two.
