I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
Same here...Each of the last 4 days, i've been outbid on an item...Still the high bidder on one, but most likely won't win it either...Oh well..

I'm here to question, not to inspire or build up. To live how I want, as I see fit, according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
The main thing I don't understand about the Auction Houses:
on eBay, we would never buy from a seller who hid bidders' ID's. Many Board members have stated that. Yet, why do we do exactly that with ML, and all of the other big Houses? What proof do we have that any/all of those bids are not shilled?
It's why I pay absolutely no attention to those "realized prices" at the Auction Houses. Who in the hell knows how much of the bidding was phantom.
I realize it's bad for their business if a 1957 PSA 8 Mays goes for less than SMR; yet things like that happen all the time on eBay. Why does every auction from ML, Mastro, etc bring "record-breaking prices?" Who are they kidding?
I bid as if it was e-bay. I always consider the 17.5 or 20 percent ontop of my bid. Normally i don't win that many auctions because i think the same as you do. When something comes up on a auction house that normally does not hit e-bay then i bid a little higher. A good example is cards with low pop's or that are 1 of 1's. I've actually made money from Mastro auctions. Probably one of the few that have. I have bought partial graded sets and graded some of the other cards which turned into low pop cards that people desired. Steve
I bid on most of the 1959 The 3 Stooges right up to the last day, when I was still high bidder on only three. I couldn't bid any higher, otherwise I would have felt like "The Fourth Stooge"!
Every card, "hammered" waaaaaaaay over SMR value. I cannot believe these cards are now worth that much, but I guess if collectors are willing to pay, I guess they are worth that much after all!
all of the cards that I picked up were below ebay prices , the others that I was bidding on that went higher , I stopped , some went much higher , others only went 1 bid increment higher.
wondo...but the complete 6 set went for 75% SMR. So, after you fill in the holes and offer up a complete set later, you will have made a terrific deal!

Thanks!
It was interesting that ML didn't add up the minor stars (Hodges, Skowron, etc.), teams or scarce series in their SMR value posting.

QUESTION? If no other person bids within a certain period do you win that auction??

And why do we continue to feed the monster?

Unless i am selling
Loves me some shiny!
I was suprised how reasonable the 56 lot went for - about 55% of SMR. I know the 6 market is soft, but jeez.
