Some PSA Facts (NOT FACTS) Sorry!

Hi All,

I just got done playing around on the PSA Verification page. I found out that the first certification number given by PSA is #01000001, which is a 1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig PSA5 card.

As of 12/13/2006 at 1:36 PM Eastern Time the highest certification number given by PSA is #31693062, which is a 1966 Topps Pedro Gonzalez PSA8 card. So far there have been 30,693,061 cards graded by PSA. Just think if all these cards were graded at a special of $5.00 how much money that would be. We all know we did not send all our cards in on specials either. So just imagine how much money PSA has made off us collectors!

Just some PSA facts I thought you maybe interested in for those of you who did not know.

Happy Holidays,
Jim

  • I don't think you are correct on the connection between the cert #'s and the total number of cards graded.

  • Hi Srs1a,

Thanks for your reply. Unless PSA skipped a number here and there my numbers are correct. There is no card graded before #01000001 and none after #31693062. If you start adding numbers by one to the 01000001 cards continue to come up, but if you put in number 01000000 there is no card with this number. The same goes with the high number certification number, but counting down. You can check for yourself.

A lot of money yes, but don't forget big dealers pay LESS than $5.00. We haven't thrown numbers out in a while but I figure 4sc, DSL, et al pay about $2 or $3 per card. Just a wild guess.

    According to their annual report:
In 1991, we launched our PSA sportscard authentication and grading service and, through June 30, 2005, had authenticated and graded over 8 million sportscards.

    Maybe they've graded 22,000,000 since July 1, 2005

And don't they also issue cert nos. for cards that aren't holdered?

You are assuming that the numbers correspond to what order it was graded. Which I believe is not true, the first four or five #'s has to do with the grader.

  • I don't think those numbers are accurate, for the simple fact that PSA cert numbers aren't doled out in pure numerical order.

For instance, I just got two submissions back starting with 0658 and 0659. If the original poster was right, they should've started with 316something.

I can't find a bigger pic right now - but as you can see, the cert# is all zeros and a 1.

Plus, I don't think the highest number means all numbers were used consecutively?

PSA recently advertized that they just graded their 8,000,000 card. The cert number was 8000000 and I believe it was a 1985 Fleer Clemens PSA 10.

  • Sorry Guys!

I stand corrected! As some of you state the numbers are not in order. I just checked and there is a card graded with a certification #00000001. Well I got bit again by that old ASSUME and you know what happens when you do that! In this case it is just ME!

    Once again; sorry! Jim

And lest we all forget, all cards which begin with 314 were graded by the Grader of Death....
