Oh no, why did this guy win my auction...

I just got an e-mail from a guy thru eBay that he will pay withc a MO. The problem is that the auction ended on 11/29 and he didn't respond before now. So I filed an unpaid item.

This buyer in the past has given a neg to one seller with 1000+ feedback and zero negs, his first because the seller required insurance. He also gave our pal BBCE a neutral because the "cards arrived quickly but that is the worst psa 8 I have ever seen."

I sent the unpaid auction yesterday, after 14 days since the (4)auctions ended. I just smell trouble here.

Oh yeah this is the note that came tru on his eBay "checkout" just now.

I am sending this payment together with the my other auction. I forgot that I needed to combine the two auctions. The two checks will arrive in the same envelope for the two auctions. Please adjust the shipping costs to bring the two orders to a more reasonable rate. Please adjust the shipping change on this invoice for these items. Thank you, Alan

I understand and ALWAYS give shipping breaks, but this guy is talking "reasonable" when it has taken 2 weeks for him to even attempt to pay.

edited to add: I just looked, and I have sent him the combined shipping rate already on an invoice.

Was the "response through EBAY" his official response
    to the UID?

It is a funny thing about the USPS; sometimes envelopes
never make it to the addressee. When that happens,
there is an option on the Dispute Console to fugedaboutit.

On EBAY, when a deal starts going sideways, it is ALWAYS
best to flee. Trying to rehab a deal with an AH or a psycho
is just not worth the effort.

  • Hey,believe me it could be worse.

I typically wait 3-4 weeks before filing the unpaid item reminder.I just had to do this with a buyer on an auction that went for over $600.00.I sent no less than 4 reminder invoices starting at the 3rd week without payment without a response.Oh yeah he happened to outbid one of my best and highest bidding customers too boot.Anyway after I had filed the unpaid item reminder in the 4th week without payment, the guy finally responds stating his son was playing around and bid accidentally too high.Keep in mind he couldn't let me know this previously so I could approach the underbidder to see if he wanted to puchase the item. No,he had to wait until I filed an unpaid item reminder w/ E-Bay.He stated he had no intention of paying for the item.

Obviously I then proceeded to contact the underbidder who of course was more than willing to purchase the item at a reduced price to the tune of around $150.00 less than he had bid because he now knows the top bidder was a deadbeat. So I accepted his offer anyway just to move the inventory.I give the deadbeat bidder an unpaid item strike so I can get my $24.00 listing fee plus final value fee back from E-Bay and I leave the Bozo negative feedback. What else should I do.He never paid or communicated with me.

Guess what I get a couple of days ago,you guessed it,neagative feedback from him.My only negative this year.So this guy not only didn't communicate and tied up a $600.00 auction for over a month, didn't pay anyway.I have to sell the item for $150.00 less to the underbidder due to the circumstances.Plus I get a negative feedback and he accuses me in the feedback of bumping up my auctions, that he never paid for !

What a great E-Bay buyer this was.My E-Bay ID is MORGAN118 if you want to check this lunatic's buyer ID out.So no matter how bad your experience is with the guy you mentioned at least you are getting paid.Be thankful.

  • Hi Michael,

Thank you for the story and for giving out this guy’s id so I can block him from bidding. The only problem with eBay is they don't do enough to get rid of the low lives that go on eBay to rip people off. I have yet to look up Gretzky's rookie cards without seeing less then 2 sellers trying to sell reprints as real OPC cards. I was turning in these people, but stopped when I seen the same seller doing it over and over. This is a clear case that eBay does not do enough. I now just keep a record of anyone I see doing this and will never buy from them.

We should ask PSA to make a message board topic for reporting bad eBay experiences so we can police these people some how.

Z, Please give me your buyer's ID somehow? Either PM me or here is my email; flyerfanno1@hotmail.com.

    Thanks, Jim

I believe if you go through the ebay nonpayment process they will remove feedback from left by someone who hasn't paid
  • Thanks for the info.I have filed a request to remove the negative feedback the deadbeat bidder left for me.It is truly amazing how a buyer that has an E-Bay authorized unpaid item strike on the associated auction is even allowed to leave feedback at all.By the way this is not an automatic that E-Bay will remove the negative even if the guy has an unpaid item strike according to their policy.

Paying for the item as a buyer is not required. You can leave feedback anyway and they even state this in their feedback policy page. Can you imagine this.Wow,what a system.I never realized this before.Anyway I'll keep my fingers crossed.I guess it could be even worse still, the guy could've sent a bouncing check.

    Sadly, not the case.

IF, the buyer "fails to respond" to the UID, he will not be allowed
to leave FB; if he has already left FB, the same will be removed
    on application from the seller.

  • In my case my unpaid item dispute refund was granted by E-Bay to my seller account mid -November at around the same time when I left negative feedback for the non-paying bidder.I believe it was 11/12.So obviously E-Bay should've known full well that this bidder was a non-payer almost a month before the deadbeat gave me my negative two days ago.I have no idea what else to do to protect me from this happening again other than file an unpaid item dispute. Are there any other procedures I should have done to protect me from this retaliatory feedback?

I sold to him back in June. I don't recall any difficulties....if there had been, I would not have left him a positive.

You also sold to him back in August.

    Good luck.

Non-Paying Bidders are always allowed to leave FB,
provided they "officially respond" to a UID through
the dispute console. ONLY IF they DO NOT respond,
are they prohibited from leaving FB.

In theory, a bidder who discovers he is being scammed
and decides not to pay, should be allowed to warn
others about the bad seller. That is the reason that
EBAY claims they allow non-payers to leave FB.

The policy has done alot of harm. I do not know if it
has done any good at all.

You can pay and still get a NPB strike that eBay won't remove.

I had a seller who opened a NPB on the morning of the 8th day following an auction that went very cheaply (vintage PSA HOFer for less than $2.50 including shipping - he misspelled the player's name in the title). He advertised that he combined shipping, and I had bid on some of his other auctions (didn't win any). I paid 2 days later by PayPal. The next day, he refunded the PayPal payment and immediately closed the NPB, requesting FVF refund so as to leave me a strike. He wouldn't respond to my emails, and eBay told me that they would not remove it because I had not paid - apparently once he refunds it, nothing I did counts. [I had several email exchanges with a "customer service" rep named Aaron, who I think would lose on a game show if matched against an amoeba and a clump of algae.]

The seller was NARUed some time ago - I don't know why.

What if the buyer responded to ONE of the unpaid responses? Can he still leave feedback on this one even if I close it out for the FVF refund?

I just want to rid this guy and make sure I don't get a neg. Even if he ends up paying me, he is going to neg me because I wouldn't cut him a further deal on winning 6 of my auctions.

I gave him the combined shipping as the auction states, and he is asking for "a more gentle shipping fee." I don'[t know why someone would bid knowing the shiping fees, which are very reasonable, and then ask for a special break.

Zef, I don't have an answer for your dilemma.

I would like to see ebay change their block bidders policy to something like.... as soon as you (the seller) is getting strung along
on a non payment issue, you can file the NPB alert and add the deadbeat to your blocked bidder list. Which in turn would automatically block this deadbeat from leaving the seller a negative.

Obviously this different blocked bidder system could have it's own pitfalls too which I'm sure would potentially be exploited by the scammers out there in ebay land. But the current system is seriously flawed when an honest seller is getting the run around from a deadbeat.

There would have to be some limit to the use of this feature too as I could see the flip side of a bad seller scamming honest buyers too and stop them from receiving justifiable negs for non delivery of goods. They could take your money and run in this scenario and have an unstained ebay rep.

Ebay should really look into modifying the FB system.

By the way, on my two ebay selling accounts I have over 100 deadbeats/nuts/wacko's blocked. It's growing daily. I just added two more today.

    Some to ramble.

Good luck Zef, to me you're a fine seller with great cards.

    Regards,
    Rich

    /////////////////////////////////////////

Once a response is made - no matter what that response is -
    the buyer can leave FB.

I know it sounds crazy, but cardbender sort of outlined why
    EBAY has this policy.

Not that it will make you feel any better, but I have an AH after
me now, too. Some of the buyers seem to have lost their minds.

If you know he is going to F with you, I say make sure you get every penny you require. If he doesnt pony up, dont send him the cards. Even if you want just one more dollar for shipping, make him pay it. Don't appease someone who is impossible to appease.

hold your ground. i had this guy jacking with me in the spring. i posted his name on this board and then emailed him and told him to look at the board. he forked up the money with an apology. there are too many people in this world who want to screw everyone out of a few bucks thinking the other person won't waste the time to fight it.

All is wll that ends well

The guy just e-mailed me today again that he thinks even my combined shipping is excessive, but he is going to sernd payment. That's great considering the auctions ended on 11/29.

I am going to close out the disputes and send him his check back when it gets here. He only responded to one of the unpaid responses so at least he'll only be able to give me one neg instead of 6.

I have thought and thought about this.....

I recall someone winning a couple of listings from me and after I sent an invoice for the cards (2.50 shipping and 50c each additional and all were PSA and this included Del. Con)...

the winner emails me and asks if he can mail me the mailing supplies with postage already on it so I can just use his stuff at his costs, etc..."to save him some money".

I don't recall getting real nasty with him but man did that piss me off and I recall posting a thread on here about it. After I posted the thread I received another email saying something about his being a member here.

I am now thinking it might have been this guy.

Sorry if this is a duplicate post. I cannot recall if
I previously reported this; it has to do with buyers'
    complaining about shipping costs.

Under EBAY's current search scheme, sellers who
offer "free shipping" are disadvantaged in the most
popular search (lowest-price first). For that reason
and others, I do not recommend that anybody volunteer
    for free shipping.

Three-weeks ago, EBAY had a special. Subtitle plus
border was "free," to sellers who offered free-shipping.
That is $3.50-retail worth of features.

Because I always use free-shipping (really means the
shipping cost is included), I hammered EBAY with a
large number of BIN listings. It was the single most
successful EBAY "special" that I have ever bought into.
Sell-through was a monster in EVERY category.

The only thing different in my listings was the border
and the subtitle. It might have had a bit to do with
gift buying, but not much. And, of course, no buyers
    complained about shipping costs.

I will be using alot of "features" next year.
