Hmm, it will be interesting to see what the '39 goes for. These coins of similar scarcity are def. a type of test case for the market - in other words, scarce to rare but available even if not always in the best of shape.
Some argue and I am not sure just yet where I stand that there are not so many mid-level collectors and that the big prices brought by the "billboard" rarities may not always spread to lesser, if attractive bits.
Many of us are wondering about the depth of the market, and sales such as this may help to determine. This collection (Alderly has a variety from lesser to greater) will be an interesting bellweather.
