    Crowns are any coins that are roughly the size of an old US dollar. ~40mm

    Crowns as a denomination are typically British. Then there are Talers (spelled however you like with that phonetic result image ) which are for the most part the same size. But with thalers (see!) there are multiples and fractions, etc. image
  • Any silver coin roughly the size of a traditional US$ can be referred to as a Silver Crown.

    M. Oka, in Silver Crowns of the Far East, published in Tokyo in 1966, pictures and describes such coins from 18 countries, including US and British Trade Dollars, the Japanese Yen, Korean Whan/Yang, etc.
