Did Grossman shut up the critics at least for a little while?

That was a solid Monday night game. I got rather sick of the pre game chatter from the ESPN guys "Oh what is wrong with Grossman"....
on and on. The Bears got the bye week for the playoffs and home field advantage. Where it goes from there who knows? image

there's your first mistake: listening to what announcers have to say. Hasn't Joe Buck taught us better?

Try listening to it all week long on the sports stations here...

I still can't believe that there is an 11-2 team in the NFL that insists upon starting it's second best quarterback.

And the beat goes on. I watched Rex all through his high school career, college career and seen every game in his professional career. At this stage he's just beyond "rookie". Its a silly comment to say he is the second best QB on this team. Ask the players, they not only fully support him but have faith he will become an excellent QB. If Griese were that good he'd be starting for the Bears or elsewhere. When you have had 22 starting QB's since McMahon in 1985 and no pro-bowlers you develope and stay with someone of his abilities.

Even with a Brady type QB starting for them I am not sure they would win a Super Bowl as there are holes in this team. It's one of those years where no one in the NFC is not showing serious flaws from one game to the next. The latest darling "Dallas" was exposed and it's possible that New Orleans as they pick up game experience is the best NFC team, but who knows. It's why this league is fun to talk about.

    Bench Grossman?

Ok! Well, after he plays the Super Bowl! (...and loses the game against San Diego! image )

edit: P.S. Give this talented kid, with an 11-2 record, a break already, for God's sake! (It seems, his teammates back Rex, so who are we to say different? Well, maybe all his teammates, except Griese?) image

Wasn't Orton 10-3 last year for the Bears?

That should demonstrate that record alone is not the way to judge Grossman (nor is QB rating on its own).

He is proving to be an up and down player. With a great D, great special teams, and an above average running back tandem, the Bears don't need a superstar - just consistency. He's a lttle risky, but Griese is no bargain, nor is Orton.

Nothing wrong with Grossman that can't be corrected - seems having his job on the line helped his consistency & decision making though.

You can win in the playoffs with average (plenty come to mind), just not with reckless.

Rex and the Bears offense seem to be "super bowl ready", as Rex and company put up nice offensive numbers against Tampa Bay!

Chicago fans should consider themselves lucky to have Rex Grossman as their starting QB.

We are talking about a winner, and he's proving it again!

He was a great QB in Florida (runner-up for the Heisman trophy as a sophomore QB, wow!), and as a young pro? ...Well he's "knocking on the door" for a "Super Date" in Miami, in his first full healthy year as the starting QB for the Bears! Now that's pretty special, don't u think?

    Rex Grossman at Florida

300 yard passing is nothing new for Rex, he did it plenty of times, as a Gator, and he can do it in the NFL too! Rex can do well under pressure, in a big game or at the end of a game (i.e., that 6 play, 50 yard drive that lead to the winning FG in OT against Tampa bay last week, along with well over 400 yards in offense, with 300+ yards passing by Rex, should tell u all something about this special player!)...

edit: Well, Rex is a winner! image Come on Bears fans! Get 100% behind your starting QB. He deserves your support! As "he's a keeper"! So Chi-town fans, don't "throw him back"!

One thing about Rex that people seem to forget is that this is his first full season he has played, he is still learning IMO, not to mention his receiving corps is decent but not great by any stretch. Grossman deserves a little credit IMO.

Agreed. The Bears are 12-2 and they've got home field throughout the playoffs. Why mess with a good thing? Do Bears fans really believe that Brian Griese will be an upgrade?? I sure don't.

Sometimes. If Grossman continues to play like he did against Det, Sea, Buf, SF, NYG or TB...then no. Grossman is far better. If he plays like he did against MIN, ARIZ, NE or MIA, then yes. Griese would not take the chances nor make the mistakes "Bad" Grossman made.

While this is Grossmans first full season, the kid has been in the league for 4 years. Tony Romo has been in the league 4 years as well and doesn't make the mistakes Grossman makes while they both have played nealry the same amount of games. Granted Grossman didn't play or practice for parts of the first 3 years, he was in the NFL.

As for the receivers, what more could you want from the group as a whole. Of the 4 that play, 3 are 6-1 or over, 2 are physical recievers and, 2 have great speed and all 4 have a nice YAC. Not to mention Des Clark at TE has some great hands and is 6-3 with decent speed himself. Also, Thomas Jones and Jason McKie out of the backfield also are good pass catching backs. Rex's misses for the most part, have been his fault. I don't buy the recievers are only decent. You put a guy like Brady back there who makes great decisions and has great accuracy, any one of these 4 could go to the pro bowl.

But I digress. They are 12-2 and have a lot to prove in the play offs. I am nervously anxious for them to start.
