New Scanner Problemo

I've been ignoring the "update" warnings either from microsoft or yahoo forever.

Then friday - I said - what the heck...

I don't like some of the upgrades which prevent me from linking or posting pics without temporarily unblocking some device - it's an extra button to press...

But here's the one that thru me off the edge!

When I pressed the button for my HP Director to scan something - it didn't work!!!!

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is there an ez fix?

I tried reloading the program from the HP web with an updated version - but I don't find an HP Director?

I can scan from the HP Photo & Imaging - but unless there's a setting somewhere to change - I am not getting JPEG files but rather TIF which don't show properties to easily copy the URL address.

Anyone?

If not - no worry - I'm gonna call HP this week and see what they have to say.

I had the same problem a while back. I simply can not scan using the software that came with the scanner. It is the HP 1315v.

I downloaded "HP Photosmart Essential" from HP's site. It is completely lame, but it permits me to scan. The photo editing software with that program absolutely blows, so I edit with the HP Image Zone software after I scan with the HP Photosmart Essential program. I hate to admit that I am that much of a tech sissy, but it works for me.

I sure hope one of the many tech gurus on the board can give a better answer.

Try HP Solution Center. It should be able to detect what hardware you have installed.

I don't know if this will work, but try system restore and restore it at a point where everything worked.
Or
If you can save as a tiff make sure jpeg and gif options are checked in your program there should be a tools or options button (I don't have hp so I don't really know if these are real buttons for them).

If all else fails try a different program for your scans like photoshop or paint shop pro.

I have an epson so it might not be the same but on my scanner there's a box for "file save settings" where you can choose format. TIFF is the best picture you can get but it doesn't work with ebay or most of the storage sites. TIFF saves it exactly as scanned where JPEG or BMP loses some of the pixels whenever you compress it for email or storage.

HP photosmart can change it from TIFF to JPEG also if you can't find the settings box.

If you can find anything about file settings or save as it might get you going.

I did.

Their program detector says I have the right program.

But, I can't find the HP director?

Hi,

HP Director is a part of HP software. Once you install HP software HP director automatically appear on the computer.

You can search hpqdirec.exe in your computer for HP Director.

I did see that page Stown
I reinstalled it but still couldn't find the HP Director - I'll check hpqdirec.exe when I get home.

I had the same problem after 24hrs i fixed it some how! Imo junk the hp, I have one and hate it Ive scanned over 4000 images in the last month and not happy a bit. Going back to the old visioneer.

Question if you go down to the start and hit the printer and faxes then choose scanners and cams. Can you get to jpeg through that should.
