I have a few newps that I'm very jazzed about- these are for my 1970 birth year set, and I've picked them up for very reasonable prices... All have low mintages- with the albania proof being from a mintage of just 500!! It needs a quick dip to remove some haze, but very cool nonetheless......
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
If we're going to dig up older pics, here's a nice one, now on its way to another member. Undoubtedly, the most beautiful German coin I've ever had the chance to own.
Here's a very nice mark, it too on its way to China.
And one more German, a 1913F half mark, from an original roll, one of three that graded 68, and a gift from 3Mark last March in Chicago, this one's still and will always be with me.
Here are a few Cap and Rays I took today for IlikeZARcoins (now residing ATS) in honor of him purchasing the best reference for the series "RESPLANDORES":
<< <i>Great coins everyone. Here's a coin I won on eBay last night:
I hate buying coins based on scans, but I'll chance it this time.
BTW: has anyone ever heard of the Whittier Collection? >>
It was a large collection of Latin American coins auctioned by Heritage earlier this year. I'm not sure if the pedigree has staying power but the collection did contain a lot of coins rarely seen for sale.
Naples and Sicily, tari of 20 grana, 1686, issued under the reign of Charles II of Spain. The legend around the globe on the obverse reads "Spain conquers and rules," an ironic reference given the fact that Charles II's reign marked the beginning of the end of Spanish power. Charles was the ultimate product of Hapsburg inbreeding -- he was mentally retarded, physically deformed and insane -- and when he died childless in 1700, it sparked an 11-year world war that ended with the French Bourbons on the throne in Madrid and Spain's power diminished for good.
Edited to add: If anyone has a 17th century Krause, I'd appreciate mintage figures and values for this one and the 1684 of the same type.
