Now, don't get me wrong - I'm no Iverson apologist, nor am I a fan. However, he's long had a reputation for leaving it all out there on the court. Don't blame Iverson for Philly's inability to win a championship. There have simply been stronger and deeper teams in the east the last several years, and in '01 had the misfortune to run into Kobe and Shaq in the finals.
Who knows, maybe Philly will end up being stronger in the end, but it's gonna be hard to replace his intensity and his points.

<< <i>As a Sixer fan, this is probably the worst thing that could happen to this team. Their young core is a year and a center away from making a serious playoff run in a weak East and their heart and soul wants to leave? Chaz is completely off base, or atleast living in the past when it comes to how Iverson is all about himself. He has showed time and time again, for the better part of the last seven years that he is playing to win, and if he gets 15 or 50 points in the process, it doesn't matter. Just look at the stats TNP presented.

THIS WAS FROM SPORTING NEWS:
Now, Philadelphia has itself an Iverson situation. It can be sickening to see players who have signed eight-figure (or even nine-figure) contracts sitting out on the teams that gave them such deals, but I am not pinning this one on Iverson. His behavior has been, um, less than admirable throughout his career, and even as he has revamped his image, those who know say he is still a divisive force in the franchise with the same disdain for practice he's always had. This seeps into the team, and the growth of young players like Sam Dalembert and Andre Iguodala have been stunted because of it. But every GM in the league knows this. Why has it taken the Sixers so long to act?
For who, for what, we're talkin' about practice here!
Dr. McHale will whip your narrow arse into shape.
Otherwise, you and Gangsta JR Rider can become fast roomates. With your naked little wife running around in the front yard.

Seriously, using steals stats to measure defense is not a good idea. Lots of rotten defenders rack up steals by playing off their own guy and watching passing lanes. Why? Because it's a great way to pad offensive stats. Not that Iverson would EVER do that...

So Chaz tell us how you really feel about Iverson ?
Man it's tough. I was born in Philly and followed the sports team here my whole life. There were only 2 athletes that were so self absorbed (Mike Schmidt) that really got under my skin and one is Iverson. He is a product of his environment and growing up without a father to instill discipline and a good sense of direction like listening to his coaches and doing what's right for the team first(like Shaq's adoptive Father) really hurt his chances of ever winning a championship here in Philly. He is just so stubborn and all that money feeds that huge ego. I am just so glad he's leaving, it should have happened a long time ago. And I love how Ed Snyder did it by just closing the doors. chaz
