2005 Marine Corps Commemorative

I have the good fortune of working at the Marine Corps base Quantico and home of the National Museum of the Marine Corps. I made my first visit there today and was browsing the gift shop. Believe it or not, they are selling both the uncirc and proof commemoratives in the original packaging. Uncircs are $67 and proofs are $69. Limit of two per individual.

Being a fellow veteran myself (Army - Vietnam), I purchased some last year to add to my collection. They are beautiful coins. I had the pleasure of giving a proof commemorative to a young Marine just before he shipped out for Iraq. He was most surprised and very appreciative of the gift. I like to think that it was a "good-luck" coin for him. I'm happy to say that he made it back home a couple of months ago safely, to his wife and children.

They certainly are beautiful coins. I have a few myself; one is in my type set.
I've been reading about the National Museum of the Marine Corps and am looking
forward to visiting there this spring.

Welcome!
Right on. All of our servicemen and women deserve our respect and admiration. If it were not for them, we all would probably not be here. Our town buried one of its own today. A young soldier (too young) died serving his country in Iraq. It was most sad. He paid the ultimate price for all of us. My heart goes out to this serviceman's family, especially at this time of the year.
