Hank Aaron says he won't be on hand if Barry Bonds breaks his home run record. "It has nothing to do with anybody....I was not going to see anybody break the record, nobody. I'm happy being at home".
He says it is not a stance against Bonds.
Bonds needs 22 home runs to break Aaron's record of 755.

<< <i>No matter how many things those two have in common, one word defines both of them in my opinion. That word is class. Aaron has tons of it and always has. Bonds has never shown even a modicum of it and probably never will. I HATE wishing this on anyone but I hope he has a career ending injury prior to breaking it. >>
I agree, Bonds has no class. Aaron has been a role model for a long time
Can you imagine one of baseball's most sacred records being broken to a round of boos while the field is showered with litter?

<< <i>I say we all buy tickets to that game, we'll each crap in a bag, light it on fire and whip it at his huge head--f'ckn cheater!
Jay >>
Sad thing is, this is only hurting the game of baseball.
<< <i>It's a shame, Bonds really should save what little self-respect he may have left, and leave the game. He should have done this a few years ago, when the steroid allegations picked up steam. Now, a classy player like Aaron will be removed from one of baseball's most storied records and replaced with a first class cheater. >>
How right you are. But Bonds will continue on because his ego is as big as that fat steroid head of his.
My guess is that Bonds DOESNT know this otherwise he would retire. He just has an ego SO DAMN HUGE he will be announcing to everyone that he is the HR King. He will call everyone jealous of his feats and also blame it on rascism...which we all know wont make a bit of sense.

I can't agree with you more Jerry. How often does that happen?
Bonds is a disgrace. I do not blame the Giants for shelling out 16 million for a broken down Bonds to belt 22 more home runs. Giants fans love him for the most part. The Giants almost had no other choice but to pacify a player that has been there for 14 years. Nobody else wanted the tainted geezer. I hope Bonds falls short.

<< <i>Maybe it's my sour experience paying for Aaron's autograph as a teenage collector in the late '80s, but "bitter" pops into my head way before "class" when it comes to the All-Time Home Run King. >>
<< <i>Aaron and Bonds deserve each other, they are both as bitter and bend as any ball players. I hope Bonds breaks a leg in his
first at bat. >>
Aaron can fairly be described as bitter, as one aspect of a complicated man. But Aaron has a fair amount to be bitter about, and to group him with Bonds seems awfully unfair.
Long live Aaron and his record!
<< <i>I agree that Aaron's bitterness isn't necessarily unjustified, but it would hardly pain me to see even Bonds break his record. >>
I think it would be kind of funny to have an addicted baseball bettor as MLB's all time hit king, and a cheater as the all time HR leader. There's a morbid appeal to that combination that's hard to resist.
baseball!
Good thing that what Teddy Ballgame did on the field will never be done again and that the record for wins will never be sniffed...some
things are still sacred.

<< <i>To Aaron's credit, if you were subject to constant death threats, you would be a little bitter too >>
To his credit? I assume you mean In his defense. It would be credit worthy if Aaron endured what he did and still maintained a positive outlook on life and the game. Or if he became a figurehead for racial equality.

Oooops. I did mean defense but without my morning coffee, my mind was just a tad cloudy
<< <i>Yeah, part of me wants Bonds to find some new, undetectable substance and get to like 950 HR's. >>
I also really, really want to see Bonds break the record on the road, and see Bud Selig forced to out on the field to MC some kind of lukewarm ceremony for the 'new HR king' while 40,000 drunk boo-birds shower the field with batteries and epithets.
If there is in fact a God (and there isn't, of course, but humor me for a second) then he will break the record in Philadelphia.
<< <i>I might as well be mainlining meth at this point. I could certainly find it out here in the Missouri exurbs. >>
Funny you mention that. Had to go out to KC for business and one of my associates told me about the explosions. Not believing him, he took me out to what appeared to be Deliverance country ( ) and after driving around for what seemed to be hours, I finally heard one.

I deeply resent that snide remark about Philadelphia in the same manner as WC Fields did. Philadelphia will warmly welcome Barry Bonds, and heartily cheer and applaud him profusely if he breaks the record at our Philly ballpark.
By the way, rumor has it that in honor of the possibility of Bonds breaking the record in Philly if that event were to occur, that the mayor of Philadelphia will designate that night as "Battery Night" whereby all fans will receive a box of assorted batteries, to in as nice and respectful a way as possible, throw at Barry Bonds to show our sincere appreciation of him.
