How to run a coin business.....

Believe it or not, the following is a quote from Gandhi.....

<< <i>A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so. >>

You do not need to be a customer to sign in here. You don't even need to be a coin collector/dealer/interested party. See the thread "need help selling a coin collection". Many of the offensive posts are made by people who have never been and will never be a customer of PCGS. They come right out in their posts and say that.

I've been on forums like this on many businesses websites (for example try the one for packet8.net) and they generally have lots of customer service complaints. Based on the lack of them here, I'd say PCGS treats customers pretty well.

To say that PCGS shoud keep boards because there are some customers here makes some sense but to say that they can't police them because there may be some customers who want their "freedoms" in incorrect. Customers come through the front door and bring their issues to customer service, not the message boards.

PCGS has to make business decisions all the time and none of them make everyone happy. I see many posts here that recognize the need to keep customers happy but don't recognize the competing forces.

This board goes through this all the time. They periodically have to rope things back in, but every time it happens the obvious gets pointed out that there are restrictions and we all need to follow them and many many posters here point that out. I really don't see anything in what David calls the new rules. Many folks have been bammed in the past for bashing and its been mentioned before many many many times that they receive customer and dealer complaints about the board.

In the end its a business decision, does it bring in more business or less? I can't for the life of me see how it can't generate new business, the dealer business will be there regardless of the boards. The folks who run CU are shrewd and wouldn't pull the plug unless they felt it was costing them business, their frustrations aside.

    Good quote.

If accompanied by TOPSTUF's definition of "customer."

    ________________________________________________________________________________
A customer is one who actually buys things. He is honest in his requests and receptive to suggestions if requested. A customer expects that a sale will include profit for the seller. A customer deserves respect and assistance in making choices. If, after receiving courteous service and fair treatment, the customer becomes argumentative or does not make purchases, he is no longer a customer but a hindrance to the business and should be avoided to make time and room for true customers.
