Mercury set update (with pictures) - black box with Hall's name on it.

Here's my latest group of Mercurys (mostly upgrades) for my rattler set. I even received a black storage box that I thought was worth sharing a picture of. The pictures were just quickly taken so the detail isn't very good but you get the idea.

Here's the end of the rattler box (which is in perfect shape).

And here's what came in the box. The slabs are in perfect shape, not a single scratch unlike most rattler slabs I've seen.

  • Really Really Cool, great job on the set so far. I can't believe how far it's come already in such a short time. This will be a set for everyone to admire, I know I do.

Nice job w/ all the new coins. Now that you have most of the easy one's out of the way, it's going to get harder.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It is going to be a very difficult (if not impossible) set to complete in the rattlers. I figure that I have 6-10 coins left in a little easier to find dates then it will be real tough. With a lot of the ones I have in 66FB even upgrades are getting a little tough. I'm hoping to work out trades with other set owners for their occasional rattlers but I can't count on it.

I still haven't made a decision on whether or not I'll add newer slabs as fillers. We'll see what happens as times goes on I guess.

Where did you find all of these, especially in an original box?

Looks like a pretty cool set. I like the smaller rattler size on the holders.
  • The MS66FB Mercs in the picture are from a group of 12 that I purchased from Cameo CC and he happened to have a box from the collection he bought so he tossed it in for me. I currently have 46 Mercs in these rattler holders that I've picked up from eBay and forum members. What really catches my eye is the way the dime seems to float in the middle of the clear window, even on the slabs that are slightly scuffed.

Today I received a copy of the pop reports from 7/89 and 7/90 so now I have an idea of how many Mercs were placed in the rattlers. Unfortunately there's no way to guess how many were cracked out.

Your idea of collecting mercs in rattler holders is truly clever. It will be interesting to see how close you can come to completion.

The box also is fascinating. I bet the late, lamented Conder101 would really enjoy seeing about it. You might think about creating a thread about the box over on the other side of the street...you know, the palce they call "Sleepy Hollow."
