I can't believe the Cardinals would sully their proud franchise by considering Bonds.

Then again, I guess they had McGwire. Ugh.

Stat boy on PTI just said the Cards GM says the cards have no interest in Bonds. So maybe it was just wild rumors like usual.

    What? What! WHAT!?!?!

    imageimageimageimageimageimage
  • i almost lost my lunch when i heard this story on ESPN 8 , i mean 2 .....Why would the world series champs feels compelled to sign a player/person like BONDS??? The Cardinals in no way need his, bat or his knee, or his attitude in St louis.......

Maybe all the owners are "in" on a boycott of Bonds!! that way MLB doesnt have to go through the embarassment of Bonds passing Aaron....

all that glitters is not gold for the cardinals. as a life long resident i can speak of this team without the rose colored glasses that so many of my fellow neighbors wear.

yes they are world champs but that does not mean they are anywhere near the best team. (see pittsburgh steelers, miami heat, university of texas football etc. etc.) the bottom line is they were 83-78 in a division that was a combined 60+ games under .500. even in that division they had only the 13th best record in baseball and with the goofy interleague schedule they get 6 games vs. kansas city where the rest of their division foes had more difficult interleague games.

they have drawn a line in the sand so no pitcher will make more than chris carpenter while he in on the team. that limits a top draw starter like schmidt coming here.

pujols is starting to show his true self. first ripping on glavine and now ryan howard. he is becoming an a-1 headcase. his agent has informed him that unless it is to discuss his restaraunt opening he should avoid the local media and only talk to national media espn, usatoday etc. the st. louis media is too small for him. he may put up great numbers but he will never ever have the class of musial or even brock.

there is a lot of division in the clubhouse. losing veterans like reggie sanders and larry walker took away a lot of the leadership. they were hoping for luis gonzalez but that's not happening next season. while rolen will give 100% he and larussa won't be exchanging Christmas cards.

they do have a good GM in jocketty and with houston coming out badly from the gates each year and the cubs being the cubs the cardinals should make the playoffs for years to come. the cardinal ownership will do the minimum to get the team into the playoffs and 3 million+ people will watch the games while the owners rake in $$$$$$$$$ hand over fist.

i know bonds is not coming here, but if he did these "self-annointed worlds most knowledgeable fans" would forget his past and make him a god. they cheered for sidney ponson! the cardinal fans are like trained seals, they clap on command for whatever their team does.

if you go on the stltoday.com website and find the cardinal forum you would think that most people there never had an original thought in their life.

oh i hope the rams or blues get their franchises straightened out soon so we can read about something positive in the local newspaper other than these prima donna. missouri going to the sun bowl is a breath of fresh air when you get this cardinal propaganda shoved down your throat on a daily basis.

    Ron,

I understand completely how you feel. I was appalled when the Tigers went out and signed Kenny Rogers last year in the off-season, swearing that I would never give another dime of my money to the team until Rogers and Pudge Rodriguez were gone. Of course I spent a few hundred bucks on playoff tickets and it was worth every penny.

Now, the Tigers go out and sign Sheffield, and I'm in the same boat. An interesting thing happened last year that made me rethink my philosophy: the Tigers allowed Dmitri Young back on the team after he physically assualted a female acquaintance. He had gone through the required rehabilitation programs and I was (relunctantly) willing to give him another chance. Then, the more I thought about it, is what Bonds and Pudge are guilty of (cheating and being all-around horse's behinds) really worse than choking a defenseless woman? What about decking a cameraman? Obviously what Young did was the worst of the bunch.

Would I rather miss the playoffs without yo-yos on my team than win the World Series with say a Bonds on my team? I absolutely would, believe it or not. But I don't have that choice. So anymore, you're left with the option of cheering for the name on the front of the uniform instead of the names on the back, or not cheering at all. I also happen to believe it's probably always been that way, as I've heard that DiMaggio, Cobb, Ted Williams, and so on were pretty much jerks as well, yet somehow they were beloved. The media wasn't nearly what it is today (no ESPN, no internet, etc.), so no one knew how the players truly were. Plus of course salaries were lower.

I know I'm rambling, but I feel your pain (if the Bonds to Cardinals deal should happen).

    Keep the faith,

    Tom

NEW YORK POST on Friday 10-13-06

    Rips Glavine, despite taking 0-fer

    BY PETER BOTTE
    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Albert Pujols goes 0-for-3 but gives Met pitching no credit.

Albert Pujols was less than impressive in last night's NLCS opener. He was even less impressed with Mets starter Tom Glavine.

A peeved Pujols snapped at reporters following his 0-for-3 outing that included a costly baserunning blunder in the Mets' 2-0 Game 1 win, claiming that Glavine wasn't fooling any of the St. Louis hitters and that the NL Central champs should have lit up the lefty.

"He wasn't good. He wasn't good at all," Pujols said of Glavine, who threw seven innings of four-hit ball for the victory. "I think we hit the ball hard, we didn't get some breaks.

"I say he wasn't good at all. We just didn't get some opportunities and that's it. . . . (Glavine did the) same thing that he always does. Throw a changeup, fastball and that was it. I just think we should've done a better job than we did."

There's no argument that Pujols could have done a better job than he did. The first baseman lined out hard to infielders Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado in his final two of three official at-bats. He also struck out swinging on a 2-2 changeup from Glavine to end the first inning, and let Glavine escape the fourth when he was doubled off first base on a flyout to shallow center field.

Still, Pujols barked that his off night was no big deal.

"Why can I be frustrated? I can't make a mistake?" Pujols snapped at the reporters who waited him out after the game. "Am I perfect?"

One of those wasted opportunities Pujols alluded came on a rare mistake on the basepaths by the man manager Tony La Russa described as "an outstanding baserunner, and I'm not exaggerating."

After drawing a one-out walk in the fourth, Pujols strayed too far off first on Juan Encarnacion's fly to shallow center and got doubled up on a one-hop throw by Carlos Beltran. "I didn't think anything. Double play, that's it," Pujols said. "It's part of the game."

    Pujols on Howard

Snubbed Pujols says MVP should be on playoff teamAssociated Press

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Albert Pujols thinks he was snubbed.

The St. Louis Cardinals' slugger is upset he lost out to Philadelphia's Ryan Howard for the National League MVP award, saying Wednesday the honor should go to someone on a playoff team.

"I see it this way: Someone who doesn't take his team to the playoffs doesn't deserve to win the MVP," Pujols said in Spanish at a news conference organized by the Dominican Republic's sports ministry.

Again nothing goes through local media.

An A-1 headcase? I hardly think it's that bad. The media blows everything out of proportion. What about him apologizing to Howard? Besides, he can hit a baseball better than anyone alive. That said, I'm glad he's in a Cardinals uniform.

Also, I am sick and tired of all the of Cardinals bashing because they were an 83 win World Series winner. In 2004, they won 105 games and got to the World Series. In 2005, they won 100 games and were 2 wins from the World Series. They basically had the same exact team this year. They were just swamped with injuries. If the injuries had not happened, they would have been a 95 to 100 win team that won the World Series. Bottom line is - they got healthy for the playoffs and took care of business.

keep believing what you want. bernie miklasz spoke at our school's men association meeting the other night and told of things that i have written.
he said that pujols personality is confused whether he wants to be bonds or ripken. send bernie an email and ask him what pujols did when his posse insisted on the "media" cover his restaraunt opening. he was worse than a headache. dropping "F" bombs and wanting to know why the "media" was there. it was because his group invited them.

i am sure all cardinal lemmings who drink the kool-aid will blame that on the media. they are of course the most knowledgeable people on earth, and are proud to tell you that over and over and over.

just because he apologizes doesn't mean all is well. michael irvin and michael richards apologized too. doesn't mean they didn't believe what they said.

as far as having the exact same team, i think losing walker, sanders and morris-veteran leadership has made that team quite different than last season. through in matheny and woody williams and you have pujols has the clubhouse leader.

i cannot wait for the day that he tests positive for the juice.
