RESERVE NOT MET

If someone is selling an item and the opening bid is $1 with their reserve set at $5 and I bid $10 with no other bids being made will ebay bump my bid up to cover the reserve?

Yes, its stupid for people to have a reserve and not offer a BIN, that lasts past the opening bid.

Agreed. What I have never understood is when someone says that they will not reveal their reserve due to it being a "conflict of interest to other bidders." When I do ask, it's generally because I really want the card and would like to know what it's going to take so I can bid the reserve amount. Maybe I'm missing something, but I've never understood that.

Yes, if you bid $10 and his reserve is $5, your bid will be $5. If his reserve is over $10, it will stay at $1.

Sigh. My favorite responce to a "What is the reserve set to?" question was:

    "Bid and find out."

I guess he didn't really want to sell the card.

I guess I am the only one without a problem that the seller does not give out the reserve. as a bidder , why do you need to know? I know what I want to pay , I bid it and if it hits his reserve then , great , if not , he wants more than I want to pay and i move on

I have two auctions with reserves on them - both 63T lots. I rarely do reserves but I clearly state in my description what the reserve is. I could have done BIN or minimum bid but I get turned off by both when I'm a buyer. Folks like to bid, so I give them the opportunity to do so.

Be careful with the "homos" comment, LMM! I was recently undressed by the PC Police of the message boards! Ha! Good stuff.
