Fritsch vending not getting the big bucks like the April Mastro Auction

I just checked and the same 64' vending box that sold for $8100 plus juice back in April is now selling for $2860 and auction ends tomorrow. And he's got a ton more where they came from. I'll bet this time next year, they sell for around 3k including the juice. chaz

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
<< <i>Maybe, but I've watched lots of stuff double and triple during extended bidding. No one puts in more than a marker bid until then, so it isn't over til it's over. >>
True, but I don't think it will reach what that 1st box went for. chaz
<< <i>What would someone do with this box anyway? Keep or break? >>
I'd bust it. chaz
Not that i'm interested or anything- way too much of a gamble and seems like a low return thing.

RIP GURU
<< <i>What's the procedure for that? Can you send the entire box to PSA and have them do it? Can you have Mastro do it? or do you have to deal with going through it all yourself (I'm assuming that's how you have to do it).

Wha......????? It already comes sealed in a plastic GAI slab , you get a pair of scissors, cut it, take out the box, open it very carefully, put the cards in card savers and send them off to PSA. chaz
<< <i>Yeah, I just figured it might be a good idea for PSA to offer a service where you can send unopened material to them and they handle it safely and grade. I know that Mastro often breaks vending boxes and grades a sampling before auctioning a box, so I thought that possibly they would offer a similar service. Guess not. >>
Always have to pregrade them yourself anyway....you could...would lose your ass if you just shipped off an unopened box to PSA and had them open the box. chaz

NOT THIS TIME BRO. $3800 IS THE HAMMER PRICE, JUST LIKE I FIGURED AND IT WILL GO DOWN FURTHER THIS TIME NEXT YEAR. THANKS BOOPOTTS. chaz
Although there were some high prices, I think Mastro's recent admissions and PR nightmares kept things down. I stayed off a few things I normally would've gone hard for, and know a least a dozen other guys that did as well.

<< <i>Chaz- you certainly called it. Wonder if they will continue to offer more of this or will hold back now?

You know what, they will continue to offer more. And I do expect prices to go back up in April because of Baseball season and the greedy 20% premium PR dies down but then as more are offered and he's got alot of them, they will go down this time next year. I stayed away as well and I wonder if they broke any sales records this time? Mastro is no dummy, they expected this kind of backlash for the short term because alot of us are dummies and have short memories and the PR stuff will go away in time so we will all be bidding our asses off again in the future. chaz

Interesting. Prices tend to go down even if the population/supply is very low -- including vintage.
A Note Regarding Tonight's Closing Session
As many of you are aware, last night at approximately 11:25 due to the
incredible number of bidders attempting to place last minute bids in the auction
our system went down. This resulted in our need to re-boot the system. When it
came back up we extended the bidding for 20 minutes. We apologize for any
inconvenience this may have caused; but we felt this was the most appropriate
way to ensure all bidders had ample opportunity to place their last minute bids.
Due to the number of lots closing tonight we are anticipating the same thing
could occur. We urge bidders to place bids as early as possible. If the system
does go down please do not walk away! We will re-boot the system and provide an
additional 20 minute bidding period.
Please note that are making significant enhancements to our systems and our
bandwidth that will be in place for our February auction which will alleviate
this problem in the future.
Good luck in tonights session.
Sincerely,
Doug Allen

Wha.......????? Prices tend to go down???? Better than 50% price drop is a pretty steep drop....... I wouldn't want to fall off that cliff. chaz
<< <i>mastronet had some bad luck. the 20% did not help but that didn't stop shoppers from flocking for last minute "bargains". i got this message today.

I really don't think that the crash had anything to do with people bidding. Do you work for Mastro???? 20% greedy buyers premium did not help and overgrading their raw cards is a real problem. chaz
I agree with you -- OF COURSE it is a P.R. move....
absolutely not. they are taking money away from consignors. much of their stuff is not rare, just expensive. at 20% most prudent bidders hit the ceiling a bid or two earlier than if the vig was lower.

Don't forget the overgraded raw cards. chaz
