Speaking of pieforts and interesting auctions ...

Here's one I am watching : Linky . It looks like an interesting item, however I don't think it's a coin. I have e-mailed the seller asking for images of the edge, but i haven't made my mind up yet as of what exactly it is. It's an opinion of a fellow collector (much more knowledgeable than myself when it comes to these coins) that it is a pre-Civil War era jewelry piece with mounts removed, since the strike is too weak to be a pattern - perhaps a transfer mold or die with some detail loss.
Nevertheless, it's not something you see every day and I thought I'd share
