1961 Topps Baseball Panel Question

In connection with the 1961 Topps Baseball set
I've been trying to put together for the last 30
years, I found this panel of 12 cards from a sheet.

How much do you think something like this would
be worth?? I think I paid something like $60 or $70
for it. I don't remember exactly.

Has anyone ever seen a full sheet of 61s?? Or
even a panel like this one??

I just thought it was kind of cool!!

Someone had a similar sheet of '57's a few months ago that included a nice Minoso (as this one does...)

Not to pile questions onto the post without answering any of Mr. B's, but...if you got these professionally cut to proper size specs, how would PSA handle them if you submitted them?

    PSA will not grade that.

And yes - very cool item!

'57 sheets are very common- I got a bunch of 12 and 16 card panels at the National in Chicago for $30 each, ones with Mantle were going for about 3x that.
I picked up a '41 Playball sheet of 12 a year or so ago for just under $400, a '62 high number sheet of 36 for about $275 and a '49 Bowman sheet of 36 for about $500. So they aren't as rare as you'd expect.
With no HOFers and being a panel rather than a sheet (not a full press run) I'm betting this one would go for around $125 or so. Looks really nice.
PSA won't grade sheet cut cards. Beckett can and does, which is why there is little or no confidence in Beckett grading among experienced collectors.

    Thanks for the replies!!

...and thanks for the info Griffins!!

    For my '61 set, I've got a rub-off, a stamp panel,
a stamp book (mail-in offer), two different wrappers,
    and this uncut panel.

There are more wrappers I don't have, a different
color stamp panel which I will get eventually, and
of course, an unopended pack, which I don't think
I will ever get, mostly because I don't trust them
    to have never been opened.

    I don't know when I'll get the last 15 cards I need
to finish the set (all high numbers, except one).
Before eBay, it was really difficult, and an uphill battle,
but now I could finish it in a couple of weeks, if I wanted.

I've been working on it so long, there is something
kind of sad about finishing it.

Anyway, thanks again for the comments!!

Now that is a complete set!
    Don't forget one of these-

I wouldn't worry about the integrity of unopened packs, as long as they have been authenticated by a knowledgable expert. Steve Hart has got a few on his site, and IMO there is no one better.

Best of luck on the set. Why this one? Sentimental, birth year, ?

Oh crap!! I forgot about the box!!

You guessed it Griffins. It is a sentimental collection.

I was 10 years old in 1961, and it was the year of
Mantle/Maris home run chase, and I was spending
my allowance money on baseball cards.

It was a year of many awakenings for me, and an
exciting time for a kid to become a baseball fan.

I better stop now, before everybody starts crying!! image

Thanks for the link, Griffins. I'll save it in case I change
my mind about owning a pack.

    Too late. image

I've got the same "addiction" for just about the exact same reasons but mine is for 1962 Topps. For me there was no problem in completing the set - the "problem" is in constantly upgrading it. In theory I wouldn't be totally satisfied until I have the complete set in PSA 10's - and that for me is one thing which keeps it fun. image

And thanks a lot Griffins image for showing an empty box - now I'll be forced to find one for 1962 and have to spend more money. image

PS: I do trust Steve Hart but I absolutely do NOT trust GAI - this has been discussed on other threads here about GAI not being trustworthy on unopened packs - in my opinion they are NOT and I for one am never going to buy a GAI "unopened" pack.

However I do plan on buying a 1962 Topps unopened PSA slabbed pack if the price is affordable...ahh...maybe I'll still buy it even if it's not affordable. - LOL

I am a little late with a reply to this due to all the
chaos in the US Coin Forum, but I did want to say
that I will also keep this in mind.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a PSA holdered '61
pack. I have seen a few GAI packs though.

Also, I don't think I would be too interested in
a cello pack. Although I'm sure they were
available somewhere, the only '61 packs I ever
saw as a kid were wax packs.

Anyway, thanks for your heads-up on the GAI
    graded packs, Steve!!

psa jsut started so you will not see them yet. Steve Hart has a bunch , www.bbcexchange.com if you are looking for a pack that is defintely legit. they are a little tougher than otther 60's packs for some reason but his prices are reasonable, how about a 61 rack? that would be the kicker, there are a few floating around. do you have the penny wrapper , that one is pretty tough in nice shape , I bought a whole group of wrappers so that I could get mine. BTW, cool panel

    > "how about a 61 rack?"
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, packcollector, I had almost forgotten about
these too. The rack packs are also very cool, and
I have seen a few of these being offered.
    ----

    > "do you have the penny wrapper , that one is pretty tough in nice shape "
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
No, but I have seen one, and have a picture of it
on a disc somewhere. That would be a very cool
    item to have too.

I only have the two 5 cent wrappers. One with
"Baseball Stamps In Every Pack" and the stamp
book ad, and one with "Extra Feature In Every
Pack", with the baseball pennant offer.
    -----

Here is a picture of my '61 stamp album. It is
the second one I have owned. The first one
was creased on the front cover, and had a
mixture of '61 and '62 stamps pasted in the
book. This one has no stamps inside and,
except for the name on the cover, is pretty
    clean.

    MisterB

That's a very nice sheet - and I would be tempted to have it framed.

    Anthony

    Incredible stuff!

I like the Topps boxes - I wish my wife would give up the living room - I would have a carpenter do builtin shelfs throughout - with indirect puck lights - and display everything I have!

I remember you have a really great pack/box collection/display that you posted a while back.

    thanx for sharing
