Yee - Ha! I finally finished a set in 8 or better

After about 4 years of feverishly looking for raw cards and spot filling by purchasing already graded cards I have finally completed a set in PSA 8 or higher. It was the 1968 Topps Hockey Set. Thanks to Joester for the final nail in the coffin. What is especially gratifying about completed this set is that I was able to do it by purchasing/trading for only 8 (5 PSA 8's, 1 PSA 9 & 2 PSA 10's) of the cards. I was fortunate enough to grade the other 124 (2 PSA 10's, 36 PSA 9's & 86 PSA 8's)myself. I try to build my sets by setting a limit of only buying 10% of the set already graded. I have only achieved the goal once so it may not be a worthwhile endeavor but it definitely make the set building challenging.

Enjoy,
Doug

Looking for well centered 1958 topps baseball psa 8 and up. Also dying for a 70 Aaron All Star in PSA 9.

    Congrats!

You did it the old fashioned way. It must have been frustrating to submit raws and they come back 7s.

My God, I can't even imagine doing the 1968 hockey set in that fashion. BIG kudos to you for having the fortitude to see that project through. For those of you who may not know, the centering on 1968 Topps may just be very well the worst (on average) of any post-1960 mainstream set (with the possible exception of 1969 basketball).

That's a hell of a feat, and you have every right IMO to feel proud as punch.
  • Great job and what an impressive way to do it...

  • Aaronman- That is quite an accomplishment. On top of the fact that you submitted most of the cards yourself, your grades at out of this worldimage
