Vintage Football Grades Popped - OUCH

All I have to say is OUCH. I've had most of these sitting in card savers since the Nationals 2 years ago in Chicago. Finally get a special to submit them and I got crushed. Also wrote No Qualifiers on the sub form I thought, but I guess not. This is my worst submission ever. Hopefully my 71-Present sub isn't as bad. I honestly had just about all of these pegged one full grade higher. I'm usually about 75% on my pregrades with my misses being about equal amounts overgraded and undergraded but this one I just whiffed. I had all the 55 Bowmans pegged as 7's and I know I didn't miss any creases. The 61 Fleer Otto was so nice I bought it raw and paid SMR for a 7. My PSA 7 Starr isn't as nice as some of these 57's I submitted so I thought they'd get 7's as well. Oh well, upgrades are always fun to chase down....right?

Anyway, here's the carnage. If there are dupes, the lower grade will be available for sale or trade if anyone has any interest.

I don't have dupes of any of those, but once I get them in if I decide not to crack and resubmit them I will let you know.

Eh, before you sell anything you need to examine them carefully for crack and resubmit candidates or to find the flaws that they did. That much variance between your expected grades and what you got is too odd for you not to examine them.

Well I hate to admit this, but I actually was a little closer than I thought. Out of the 37 cards (36 really since one was a miscut and not graded) I was dead on on 21 of them and predicted a grade low on 4 of them. The other 11, I will take a closer look at. The 55 Bowmans really surprised me. Those ones I was literally 1-3 grades high on and I don't know why. I'll also check the OC ones that I didn't expect to see if they'll fall inline with one grade lower, unqualified. The PSA 8 Bill George is nice. it's not a low pop by any stretch (1/66) but it's a moderately tough set and it's a HOF'er, so that's always nice.

I hope my "modern" sub of 160 cards pops soon!
  • Quite a coincidence. I just received back about 60 1955 Bowman FB that I submitted. I have submitted cards from that set several times before and I was shocked as to the grades I recieved this time. I was 1-2 grades off on almost every card. That has never happened to me before. Do you think it has anything to do with it being such a popular special? I was really surprised how mine graded. Anyone have thoughts?
