So who sells into the X-mas season

I'm thnking of having this Sunday the last Sunday this year for selling on the bay... It'd seem to me that the closer we get to the holiday the more people will shy away from buying coins... maybe a reserve is in order. I'd think a "no reserve" auction would do poorly after the 15th.....

  • I agree. I'm not getting bites on the auctions I have had since Thanksgiving. I have one set that I've listed twice, less than what it has been selling for, and still no bites. This will be the first time I have had a problem selling something on ebaY since I started.
But, in the past, the best time for selling has been the days right after Christmas. Last year I had several auctions staggered to end Christmas day afternoon to Jan. 10. I cleaned up. People get that Christmas money and can't wait to spend it.

That has also been my experience. Assuming, of course, that one is selling stuff that has a decent demand curve.

  • I was going to put a bunch of stuff up for sale but with your discussion I will wait and start the auctions over the Christmas hols

I guess the demand is different on higher levels because we generally have an upswing in sales during December that continues through around April then after that it slows down until the end of summer then back up again in December.

The demand is there at any level if the coin is nice or more difficult to find. The stuff that's soft is the material that can be had in quantity at any shop or show.
