VFish 1867 w/ Rays Shield Nickel - Opinions Welcome
Another one of my auction wins last Friday. I'm slowly progressing in my comfort zone out of the $20 raw coins into the $50 raw coin realm. Few specific questions with this one.
1) Anyone disagree with a grade of VF?
2) Is the 2nd "S" in "States" common like that? The ANA grading guide even shows a similar one in their picture of the AU example.
3) This isn't destined for a slab, but if I wanted to - with the amount of cleaning this shows, would that keep it out?
It needs to sit in some acetone for a little bit, but other than that, I liked it and the price was right. I welcome any words of wisdom you may have.

If cleaning is obvious, PCGS won't slab it, NGC would only put it in an NCS slab, and ANACS would slab it with a "cleaned" notation.

<< <i>I have no problems grading your coin VF - probably VF-30. The missing S in STATES is the result of grease fill on the die, and is fairly common on shield nickels.

Thanks Howard, the cleaning is obvious to me by the hairlines, but wasn't sure if there is such thing as "acceptable cleaning lines". I'm pretty sure PCGS doesn't like them, but wondered about the others (More for education than planning).
I bookmarked your site, thanks.
