Remember Al Michaels' "Do you believe this!!!???"

Finding this reminded me of those words of Al Michaels in his excitement of the broadcast of the 1980 U.S. Olympic ice hockey teams' defeat of the previously untouchable Russians. Fourteen friggin' years to find just ONE!! IMHO, just like the experience of those mighty underdogs!

There's something wrong with the D, you should return it.

Is that the DQ or Dairy Queen dollar? Congratulations!

Could you elaborate a little on it ? Please ? I must admit, I am ignorant to the VAMs..
Where did you find it ? Is that damage around the "E" on the obverse, or a diagnostic ?
Finally , congrats on finally locating one.

Those Donkey tail Vam 1A's are at the top of the cool list.

I think his exact words were, "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" Fits that coin even more nicely.

This is a TOP 100 VAM 1A "Donkey tail". The major die break on reverse caused metal flow from the base of D in DOLLAR that has an appearance that earned it the whimsical moniker. To put into perspective my enthusiasm, this is the only one I've ever found, having looked at maybe 10,000 1887-P Morgans. The fugly spot on obverse below E is just a bit of foreign matter that was crusted on the surface(food?) that has been removed without incident.image
Even better so, I found an EF example of the Early Die state of this VAM 1A in the same group of dollars. The odds of that happening???

Bigtime congrats on that find! Extremely tough to locate. Good looking one at that, despite a few problems. I have yet to find one of those.

Nicely done image At least XF40 and maybe a bit better with the food removed.

Did somebody say EDS Donkey? Man oh man I want that one! At least share a photo please.
