Yeah I managed to spend a grand total of 4 hours there.Between a 4 hour flight delay and the added distance this new location is from the Philadelphia Airport it wasn't one of my more memorable Philly Show trips. To be honest with you hopefully I won't need to go in March as I can take it or leave it now.The roads in Reading must have been designed by someone who musn't have been treated too kindly by the 60's.The National in Anaheim/ Los Angeles was easier to negotiate as far as the location.Almost everyone I talked with at the show had the same comments.Maybe the promoters only had this option for the location due to timing but having a show in a run down factory district nowhere near Philadelphia or the previous location was pretty discouraging for me.
The show itself was alright I just didn't have enough time to thoroughly go throught it.It was more like a race so I could get back on the road to Philadelphia to catch my flight back.Way too far away.I don't know too many collectors or dealers that have there own jet capable of landing at the Reading P.A. airport. It is really a shame since The Philly Show had been a really enjoyable and relaxing show for my wife and I and something I really looked forward to.This was more like a forced march on Moscow.
I did find enough items at the show to make it worthwhile and as usual had some great conversations in the limited time I had available with some great hobby veterans. It really is a great hobby and that's really the bottom line.In most businesses you would never have the comraderie there is in this one.Try going to a coin show and see what that is like if you really want to experience a cutthroat business.Never mind my real job as a sales manager for a building material distributor.
I really felt bad for the dealers who set up at the show.It would be interesting to see how they fared.Hopefully they did alright and this show will continue since it is the finest regional in the country.Just not in this location.
