Mint your own coins?

I see that you can legally print your own stamps at home on your computer. Legally.

No wonder that the PO are getting rid of the stamp machines! Now maybe we can all get our coin designs minted at home. Simply pay the Mint with plastic and they will send you the plastic blanks, take your computer and design your own legal coin! The technology exists now. BEP can do the same.

I'm afraid we have become a world dominated by plastic and little black marks on white sheets of paper.

Well, it isn't at all as simple to mint your own coins, even through the BEP. However, perhaps they might stop making $1 bills and offer to print them with the central portrait of your choice for a minimum order. I can only imagine what we'd end up with: porn stars, Hitler, Britney Spears, Bill Gates, the Burger King king, ....

If selling $7.80 worth of postage for $30.49 is your definition of "neat", well, yeah, then I guess so...

I haven't done any looking into it, but I would assume that anyone can put their own images on stamps - why would anyone want to buy them for so much over face?? Neat idea, perhaps, but the guy seems to be missing one key element - customers.

I think the seller is banking on the idea that most people are unaware of this. Apparent;y though, he isn't getting many takers.

Makes on wonder, though, if there is any safeguard on objectionable images. I could see folks sending their tax returns (or similar) in with the images of Hitler, Manson, dog feces, porn, ...
