PSA Baseball Card Olympics

I put together a few baseball card olympics pages, similar to the football card olympics discussed here. I didn't know the best way to divide them, but here's a cut at it:

1930's PSA Baseball Card Olympics
1940's PSA Baseball Card Olympics
1950's PSA Baseball Card Olympics
1960's PSA Baseball Card Olympics
1970's PSA Baseball Card Olympics

There are probably bugs, but let me know what you think.

Mike

    Very cool!

It's amazing how close Charles M. Merkel, Charles M(sans period) Merkel, and Charles (sans M, sans period) Merkel are in the 50's listing. I'll be interested in seeing who comes out on top. image

  • Nearmint, that's a great idea. I just bookmarked the page. Any thoughts on doing this for the MISC SPORTS as well (specifically, boxing and golf)?

Nice work and thanks for sharing.

I actually did the work to automate it because I wasn't finding enough time to keep the football card olympics up to date. And once it was automated for football, baseball was fairly easy to add.

I'm betting on sans M, sans period, just because I like the word "sans."

Sure, I can add those. Maybe this weekend when I'm supposed to be fixing the tub. (Don't hold me to that.) How should they be broken down: by sport only, by sport and decade, or all misc sports together?

Thanks for the compliments; it's fun doing these things.

Looking at the first 3 Olympics, I have one silver and one bronze, both in obscure sets that few collectors care about.

    In other words, I'm Morocco.

  • Nick,
Welcome to the medals table. In FB where this has gone on longer, you will see interest in some rather bizarre sets that no one knows about or cares about. This table actually has been taken to heart, especially in 60's FB by several competitive folks and the game is on. The hope would be to create a demand in your sets and drive prices up ridiculously (like the 67 FB Krazy pennant inserts --- or the 62 FB bucks) so that you can no longer afford to collect the sets you like and end up collecting round cards like Shouldabeena. Enjoy the noteriety while it lasts. Moracco may be Moracco but at least it's not one of those you've never heard of.
But honestly, if you have a top three set in any set. It is a thing to be proud of and enjoy. May all your bronze and silver turn gold.

I think you need to get some kinks out....................Marrying up a few names ----- 70s for instance Duke of Disc-O names his sets differently-----There are tons of others.....

A person's sets all have to have the same name, otherwise I can't match them up automatically. If Duke of Disco called all his sets Duke of Disco, they'd get summed up correctly. I could try to match on parts of the names, but that's bound to have problems, too.

Funny, I had seen the 60 Football Olympics thread but never checked it out ( and still haven't) thinkng it was about some obscure football set. I not being a football fan and all................

I am sure the "same name" issue was discused there also................it seems something should be done other then "....make everyone have one name for their sets....".......your Olympics are sort of bogus as they exist now, but your efforts shouldn't be..........

Like Morocco, I'm doing better in more recent Olympics - 1 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze in the 1960s, and 13 silver and 4 bronze in the 1970s. image

Of course, on my gold, I'm at about 5% complete and there is no other registered set. image

Several of my medals come from sets where I have one card registered, and in most cases I'm at less than 10%.

And I've already been relegated to buying cards with round corners. Most of my 1970s silver medals come from discs. image

  • Nick,
And there in lies the beauty of the game. In the beginning 5% only set is a powerhouse. But in time..... this can change if people start to play. Sounds like your already a pretty strong player.
    Dav,
Your collection breadth again has pushed you to the top of the heap among us FB guys who have a little of that other sport. I'll get to work on a few to see if I can catch up with you and Nick.

    Nearmint,
Thanks very much for the efforts here. Anytime we have a new outlet for smack talk among the boys is always a good thing and I just love being ahead of MOSH in a few areas.
