Most exciting bowl matchup?

Ohio State vs Florida, Arkansas vs Wisconsin and USC vs Michigan.........after that, no other game seems too exciting to me. Maybe I'm just not in the bowl mood yet. Anybody feel the same?

For sheer excitement, I don't see how any bowl could compare to the New Orleans Bowl featuring Troy and the mighty Owls of Rice University!

    Fight for Rice!
    Rice fight on!
    Loyal sons arise.
The Blue and Gray for Rice today
    Comes breaking through the skies.
    (Fight! Fight! Fight!)
    Stand and cheer. Vict'ry's near.
    Sammy leads the way.
Onward go to crush the foe!
We'll fight for the Blue and Gray.
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.
  • Don't you think it kind of sucks that AllState forks out millions and millions of dollars to sponsor the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, but it won't pay out insurance money to the victims after the hurricane that devastated that area? That's pretty tasteless on their part.

No, I don't think it sucks. Ironic, yes.

Easily USC and Michigan. This game will tell if the poll voters have correctly picked who should be in the BCS title game and if Michigan got the shaft or not.

You are so full of crap -- Allstate and most of the large P&C insurers are bending over backwards to rebuild lives devastated by the hurricanes. Why don't you read and cite some of those stories as well -- which are much more common than the problem cases.

You apparently don't realize how many billions of dollars the insurance industry (both the primary insurers and the re-insurers) have paid out. For every case the media jumps all over, there are probably dozens of claims being paid out quickly and fairly which no one hears about.

I am most looking forward to the OSU, Florida game. Once and for all we will find out how good Florida and the SEC is. The SC, Michigan game has the potential to be fun to watch if they don't go into it deflated. It will be interesting to see if both teams will be able to get up for it and each had a good shot at OSU.

I am also looking forward to OU vs BSU.

Same here. We really have only one chance to see if Boise is for real, and worthy of BCS consideration. This is it. If BSU stays competitive then it speaks well of the inclusion criteria the BCS included for the "have-not" conferences, just as it did when Utah crashed the party and smoked Pitt a couple years back.

Im an SEC buff, but doubt florida will be albe to put on an itneresting game.

Overall most of the SEC teams are good, making it a pretty tough conference. However the powerhouses are easily OSU, Mich, and Wisc.

Therefore, I think OSU will easily win, but it will not truly decide which is the better conference. 3 amazing teams vs. 8/9 goods ones...

I mean take the Outback bowl...

#4 in the Big 10 vs. #4 in the Sec. If the conferences were matched this would be an interesting game...

I'll side with those who are looking to OU/BSU. I could care less how the traditional powers fare against each other. Some years USC (or their equivalent) wins, some years Michigan (or their equivalent) wins, blah blah blah. But watching Boise State give Oklahoma a game would be very exciting.

I also hope that Wake will give Louisville all they can handle. Any DI school that graduates 95% of their football players automatically rises to the top of my 'teams to root for' list.

I live in Indiana, hold a degree from IU and love big ten football, but please Wisconsin is not a powerhouse.

Wisconsin 35-14 Bowling Green 4-8 record
Wisconsin 34-10 Western Illinios 5-6 record
Wisconsin 14-0 San Diego State 3-9 record
    Wisconsin 13-27 Michigan
    Wisconsin 52-17 Indiana 5-7 record
    Wisconsin 41-9 Northwestern 4-7 record
    Wisconsin 48-12 Minnesota 6-6 record
Wisconsin 24-3 Purdue 7-5 record with wins over Indiana State, Ball State & Miami OH
    Wisconsin 30-24 Illinois 2-10 record
    Wisconsin 13-3 Penn State 7-4
    Wisconsin 24-21 Iowa 6-6 record
    Wisconsin 35-3 Buffalo 2-10 record

Of the teams they beat their combined W-L record was 51-71.

Thinking more about Oklahoma reminds me of their hose job against Oregon where the terrible officiating gave the game to the Ducks. Might it have been OU, not Florida, playing OSU had that horrible call been properly reversed?

Agreed. You may think I hate ND to the point of being irrational, but yeah, this should have been flagged. And then there Leinart's lucky fumble, too, which led to it.

I was giving them Wisc. to be nice. Fine then, the big 10 only has 2 powerhouses, the rest are decent teams at best.

I know you were ddbird....but mpeter thinks wisconsin win should have put Michigan in the BCS bowl.
  • IrishMike, What you have to realize though is that all the Big Ten teams that Wisconsin played, also played Ohio State and Michigan this year. That would give each Big Ten opponent three losses each right there. The exception being that Illinois didn't face Michigan. Then two non conference opponents of Wisconsin also faced one of those other teams.
  • IrishMikeIrishMike Posts: 7,737 ✭✭✭
As soon as you realize that no Big Ten team played a difficult out of conference schedule and ND went 3-1 against the Big Ten beating two of the five teams that had a winning record.
  • I guess I'll also mention that Wisconsin has one of the best running backs in college this year, leads the nation in Time of Possession, has an offensive line larger than any college or NFL team that wears opponents down and one of the most balanced offensive attacks around. Of course the defense is ranked third in the nation too.

I also have to add that they beat all their opponents handily except for a few games toward the end of the season while their starting quarterback was out with a shoulder injury.

3-2 in 2006 IM....you forgot they got their asses handed to them in January.image

I actually think the best game will be the Rose bowl. If Lloyd Carr and Michigan lose that game....he is really going to look like a moron for his whining and complaining.

C'mon goose, he was the only coach of the top 3 teams competing to play Ohio St. not lobbying their team all over TV or complaining about something to do with the BCS. Only after the selection did he make a statement, and that was simply because he was ticked off about the comments Meyer made about Michigan. What else was he whining about?

Yet more evidence in the case against the BCS. Let's face it-- anyone with two active brain cells knows that Oklahoma 'won' that game, and the only reason it appears as a loss in the official record is because the refs bungled it. And this is not one of those 'was it pass interference or wasn't it' type of debates. The refs flat out screwed up.

With this in mind, if any of the voters were genuinely concerned about ranking the teams 1-25 based on their actual ability then Oklahoma should have been ranked is if they were a one loss team. But of course they weren't. This kind of stupidity, incidentally also spilled over to the way the top 5 teams were ranked, where I'll bet you that the opinion of most of the voters was articulated by Robert Smith on ESPN, when he said (with a straight face) that while Michigan would probably beat Florida on a neutral field, that Florida should get the BCS berth because 'Michigan already had their chance'.

Yes, you read that right, and yes, it has to be one of the dumbest comments I've ever seen. Basically, the argument is that while Michigan is better than Florida, Florida is somehow more deserving of a crack at the national championship. Once someone has found a way to reconcile those two sentiments please PM me.

IF Tressell would have voted, which he should have grown a set and done, would it have made any difference one way or the other?

    Dirtmonkey....
I'm just not a Lloyd Carr fan. He has no personality whatsoever. He had 2 weeks to make the rounds on the various shows and put on a happy face and state his case.

Also DM....I will be cheering for UM on 1/1!!(edited to add....I feel very dirty admitting that)image

LOL, he's actually quite personable if you ever meet him. I've met him twice and I can honestly say he's a supper nice guy and quite funny. He's just an old school guy. He was tutored under Bo, who was tutored under Woody... that should tell you something, eh? Because he's old school, he didn't feel he should have to lobby for his team. He knew he couldn't control the computers and the sentiment around much of the media was surrounding the whole "replay" issue. He wont lobby for his players for the Heisman either like most coaches do. The fact that they have won 2 while he's been here is remarkable, especially when you consider one was a defender and the other was a glorified kick-returner. In the end, if a coach has to lobby and if the main BCS guy (who's affiliated with the SEC) has to lobby for their team and /or conference, than that shows what a farce the BCS is. Even if Michigan would have made it, I would still be bytching because the BCS, it's formulas, the computers and the interactive polls all don't prove anything. It's usually a popularity or beauty contest. Ask Boise St.

Don't know if it will be the most exciting matchup but I am looking forward to the LSU v. Notre Dame. I think it will be a great game to watch.

I am not too excited about the Florida OSU matchup, I think OSU wins by 17.
