It's been said that there are no authentic old brothel tokens; they are all fantasies.

I've seen only a few which I thought might be real. Current tokens are usually good
for something other than the "main attraction".

supposedly means Gentle Annies Brothel of Chicago

Evidently there was some competition amongst them in that era dubbed the "Prostitute Wars"

the cool thing is GAB are my initials !

Maybe not your particular coin. But there would seem that some police records and newspaper stories would still be on file. They might make mention of them.

It's called MACE. Wives use it to discourage brothel token rings.

I have some I inherited. I doubt they're real but Im pretty sure my friend I inherited them from thought they were.

There probably are some authentic old brothel tokens, but they are good for drinks in the establishments bar area not for time with the ladies.

This is a quote from Rich Hartzog a long time specialist dealer in tokens. "MOST, if not all, original bawdy house tokens DO NOT have any reference to the occupation, and are often "Good for a Drink".

On the other hand there are genuine brothel tokens for some French brothels, possibly others.

Did some searching and have only found one reference to a token supposedly used in a 19th century French brothel. It was also a modern fake. So the French ones may not exist either.

I have seen a couple programs recently like that where they mentioned the brothels and brothel tokens and showed some. And they were all recent fantasy pieces. Someone fed them a line and they bought it.
