Turning A Coin in Its Slab

Hi, Everyone.

I just got a coin from Heritage today. It's a nice coin, but it's rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise from where it should be. Does anyone have a suggestion for rotating the coin? I know I'm being picky, but it's just annoying!
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

I've heard you can turn a slab on it's edge and tap the edge firmly to rotate the coin.

I think the only remedy is submitting it for re-holder. While you're at it, you might as well go for a grade bump as well, if deserving.image

  • Put the slab on its edge and use a vibrator on it! The coin should have a preferred rotation, that is, if you draw an imaginary vertical line on the face of it, the coin's center of gravity will be to the left (or right) of this line. Vibrations should jiggle it counter-clockwise (clockwise). You might have to change the edge that is against the table during this process. Good Luck!

I've tried various kinds of tapping/hitting it against the table, and that doesn't seem to be working right now. I'm afraid to shake it, as it might ding up the coin if it rattles inside.

  • Nice Merc! I would leave it alone. Sometime in its journey it was rotated by vibration in a car or truck, which means your coin is capable of being rotated. However, if it rattles, I would be worried that the coin will hit and rub on the front or rear face of the holder. If you can live with it, leave it be.

I was able to tap (on the rubber tire of my wheelchair) and achieve these results:
