OK, Stupid Question...PCGS Price Guide

How come the PCGS Price guide does not have an AU grade price.... goes from EF to 60. Doesn't PCGS grade coins AU?

Also, is AU58 nowadays the equivalent of say MS60 - MS62?

Thanks for the responses.

The question is not stupid. PCGS wants to leave "room" for the individual to establish value for his or her au coin. You'll see "rooms" like this in other price guides as well. Keep in mind always that no price guide for coins is the final word on a coin's value. You are the owner not the writer.

No. There are many coins with slight wear, however, that have great eye appeal and can command a premium over a hohum unc.

I don't think there's a ton of demand for AU Lincolns (though I could be missing the boat), so there could just be too much variance in market prices for them to include in the guide. In most cases though, I see the range of XF to MS60 to be a relatively reasonable range for an AU coin anyway (in other words, the coin could trade anywhere between those two numbers).

    Mr1874,

Just a note to say I enjoyed the Einstein quote. I sent it to some friends. It's "Brilliant," but "circulated" now.
