OT: A PayPal/Ebay mistake not to make...

You learn something new every day. Don't make the same mistake I did.
I bought some noncoin merchandise from a seller on Ebay. In our communications, he indicated that he had additional merchandise he was willing to sell, and we came to an agreement on price. He sent me a PayPal invoice, and I paid it. When the merchandise arrived, I had been shorted a percentage of the quantity we had agreed upon. So after the seller not returning my emails or PMs, I filed a PayPal dispute equivalent to the percentage I had been shorted (10% of quantity short; I filed a claim for 10% of the original purchase price not including shipping and handling).
I filed the claim under "Significantly Not as Described" (SNAD) rather than merchandise not received, because I had in fact received a package from the seller and he had proof of receipt.
Claim instantly autodenied by PayPal. Why? PayPal only covers SNAD claims for Ebay merchandise, NOT off-Ebay merchandise: The seller had NOT chosen "eBay items" as the category when he created the PayPal request for payment. As it turns out, I should NOT have paid the seller's PayPal invoice, but rather done a "Send Money" stating that it was for an Ebay item and I would have been covered.
In order to be covered under SNAD, the item must be either (1) paid for through Ebay's checkout system, or (2) when Sending money, you must choose "eBay items" in the category dropdown list.
So if you're ever buying merchandise in addition to an Ebay item, you want to be aware of this restriction...
