Why MLB MVP voting rights need to be changed...

The results from the 2006 MVP Awards prove that the voting rights needs to be updated....BEAT WRITERS should not be allowed to vote on MVP Awards ...they have far to much bias towards their own teams and have blinders on towards the rest of the league....once a writer becomes a BEAT writer, they should forfeit their vote to a national write who can actually make an unbiased, educated choice for MVP........to put Jeter 6th in the voting is a complete disregard for the sanctity of the award...

some examples.........

Morneau was the third most valuable player on his own team!.....Joe Mauer was the first catcher ever to lead league in hitting, and he played most of his games, and played arguably the toughest position......not to mention his defense and he caught for the cy young winner..oh yeah Johan Santana, he was lights out almost all year and was the only true ACE in the AL....

Morneau ws benched in the first half of the year while batting .225.......How valuable is he if his Team Doesnt even want him for a few games? That is not MVP material.... (Jeter batted 1st 2nd and 3rd in the best lineup in baseball at one point in the year)...THAT IS VALUABLE....

The award has become a "who has hit more Hr and RBI IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR AWARD".....

these beat writers dont even do any research for th award, as one write JOE admitted on a radio station, that he DIDNT KNOW WHAT JETER DID IN THE 5 GAME SWEEP IN BOSTON...he had no clue he went 5-5 the first night to set the mood!!!...

this chicago beat writer voted DYE 1st, ORTIZ 2nd(sox were out of it in August after 5 game sweep), Jeter 6th!!!! 6th! come on......

They need to assign the voting privledges to national writers (no beat writers) who are unbiased and KNOWLEDABLE IN THINGS OTHER THEN THE LOCAL TEAM.......

DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE NATIONAL LEAGUE MVP.......

This wouldn't have anything to do with Pujols whining to the press now would it? image
Seriously, I agree 100%. Not even being on the Jeter bandwagon it's obvious that personal and emotional barriers between writers and certain players has tainted, no, blackened, the MVP voting. Jeter was robbed.
  • I agree 100% with the NL vote. the AL on the other hand, no way, though i dont think anyone was clear cut. Jeter to me did not deserve it either, but he did more so then morneau. i probably would have voted Dye, Mauer, Jeter, Ortiz, Santana

You will never find a foolproof way to vote when humans are involved in the process. And if you use computers and stats, then you lose the intangibles part of the vote. I look at the college football BCS system. It has problems, but at least they are trying to get the top 2 teams to play for a national championship. It does work every time, but it does most of the time.

I believe that the local beat writers will do the best in the voting. Is there favoratism to home teams? Yes, but every team will have that advantage of it's own beat writers.

With national writers, you are going to have the voting in suck-ups and my-crap-don't-stink writers who are looking for c**ktail party cred. Most national writers do not get to see every team play and will mainly for the big market teams. This would doom the small market team players.

So, no matter which system you have, there will be bias.
#LetsGoSwitzerlandThe Man Who Does Not Read Has No Advantage Over the Man Who Cannot Read. The biggest obstacle to progress is a habit of “buying what we want and begging for what we need.”You get the Freedom you fight for and get the Oppression you deserve.

My unbiased pick would have gone AL--Mauer,Jeter,(Thomas,Dye-both guys that were written off as has beens'). NL--Pujols( possibly biased as half of my Angels now play for St. Louis), Howard
