What's the oldest US coin you've recieved in change?

Let's say in the last 10 years. Searching rolls doesn't count. I recieved an 1897 Indian in change at a McDonald's drive-thru last year.
How about you?

<< <i>Oldest US coin...I think it was this one
That's pretty nice. Looks like a nice XF-40. My 97 was only G-4 unfortunately.

<< <i>In change in the last 10 years? A couple nickels, a '38 Jeff and an undated Buff. Used to get all sorts of old coins in collecting on my paper route as a kid. The oldest and weirdest one ever by far was an 1876 20c piece that I got in change at a market around 1970. The cashier saw it looked weird and gave me an extra nickel when she realized it wasn't a full quarter. Wonder whose coin collection had been raided to finance a munchie run. >>
Are you saying the cashier looked at it and realized it was a twenty cent piece, and therefore gave you another nickel? I didn't know cashiers in 1970 were familiar with twenty-cent pieces !! I'd say the cashier's behavior was even more bizarre than the person who spent it ...
As a kid in the 1960's I remember getting IHC's regularly, Mercs and Buffs (often with the date gone), and an occasional worn SLQ or V nickel. I remember getting a worn Barber quarter once ... that intrigued me ... maybe that's why I now collect them. But one of my friends actually got a worn flying eagle cent in change !!!!!!!! That must have been around 1970. I have to admit I was jealous, but I thought it was very cool.

I think she thought it was Canadian at first. It was a long time ago. Never know but perhaps she's a collector today. Most people don't pause and look at what appears to be a different sort of coin.

Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
<< <i>About four years ago, my nephew did receive a two-cent piece in his change. He assumes the person who gave it to him thought it was a quarter. It was an 1864 Large motto in XF.

Wonder if it was a cool variety. There are plenty for that issue.
