What would cause this Morgan to look like it does?

I was just poking around on e-bay and ran across an auction for this coin. What do you think caused it to look like it does? I'm guessing that it was exposed to bleach, perhaps to cover up an abrasive cleaning. I'm not accusing the auctioneer of anything, it is being sold with a statement saying it was recovered from a fire.

    Looks way overdipped!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Looks like a fire followed by an acid dip with a considerably stronger acid that that used in a commercial dip.
  • envoirmental damage?

At first I thought the damage might have been caused by some sort of electrical arching but the possibilities of different chemicals released during a heated fire is also possible.

Looks like it has been over cleaned mechanically and chemically...plus it has that fireman's axe print on the reverse.

  • I'm thinking it was a jewelry piece, and the color is from reaction with the metal of the mount or something of the sort. It's certainly been brushed pretty hard on the obverse.

I'll go with that. It does look like it might have been in a fire and cleaned afterward.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

......followed by a harsh, abraisive scrubbing. Worth melt and nothing more.
