Remember the name Pinnacle Rarities, one honest coin dealer!!!!!

I just purchased my second bust half dime (1834 MS65 PCGS) from Dan at Pinnacle in two months. Forgetting he has top notch stuff, that he knows his coins, that he takes time to part his knowledge, that he is pleasant to deal with, that he is just a plain no nonsense, no sales, a nice guy, but the real deal for me is the guy is honorable to boot. We talk price over the phone, he sends it out and I get it in perfect shape the next day as promised for my perusal. And then I ask him to repeat his the negotiated price (as opposed to his advertised listed price on his website), remember he is going from memory of a couple days back and it turns out that his price is different than I remember, higher than what I remember so now one would think we have a conflict, so I tell him what I remember, and his response is " if I said that then I will stand by that price period " even though he remembered it differently he ended up going by my memory not his. Note I am a big boy, he didn't have to do it, I happened to write the figure from our conversation down right away, heck maybe I buy a coin a month and talk to one or two dealers in that time whereas he runs an entire business talking to hundreds a week, nothing was in writing between us, it was loose and casual.

Here is a dealer that stands by principle, making the customer happy, looking at the long term relationship that he and I are building. I felt so bad that I told him that I am not going to insist that he goes with my number, lets just work it out, he says " don't go there, don't feel bad, I stand by what I told you , the deal is done and I am changing the invoice to reflect the lower figure". Wow, how many times have you encountered different recollections only to end up having a sour taste in your mouth?

Look it wasn't a huge dollar difference but it was enough and it was what motivated me to purchase the coin in the first place. Dan is a stand up guy, he stands by his word, he handled a difference in what are minds remembered professionally and nicely. I can't say enough nice things about him, only thanks for being a dealer who doesn't just look at closing the deal and not just looking at the dollars to be made but looking at the big picture, being a kind of fiduciary coin broker who looks after his clients, do you know what I mean?

BTW, I don't know how to post a pic of the coin from his website so I would if I could, but it is a fine looking coin to go with a great experience in its purchase. Anybody else have some positive stories about this sort of schtick.
Thanks Dan.

I've been lucky enough to purchase one coin (also a bust half dime) from Pinnacle...nothing but positive experience for me too!
  • They are just very ,very ethical..Great coins, solid advice. High end customer service. The best in my opinion..I dont want to start a war here..but I will throw it out...How many dealers are you "very comfortable" dealing with??? I have a few collector buddies and under half a dozen dealers that I can say that about..

I like Pinnacle too! I have not purchased as much as I'd like, but every transaction was very pleasant.

  • Pinnacle is a very reputable company-

But really, any intelligent business person would do the same thing. Sticking by the theory that the customer is always right ( most of the time) is just smart business.
