PCGS SLAB CLEANING QUESTION

I have a $20 gold piece that has scotch tape on it....after I peel the tape off, what can I use to remove the glue, without scratching/ruining the slab?

    No no no no NO!

Use a fresh piece of scotch tape to remove scotch tape residue! Better yet, a small piece of duct tape works even better and you'll never scratch or cloud your slab!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

How are you gonna peel the tape off the coin if it's in a slab?

Okay, so 5 responses and 5 different cleaning methods.....I think I will try Lee's suggestion above....Scotch tape, 1st...Sounds pretty harmless to me image

Anyone else agree with any of the methods suggested so far???

  • All of them will work, the only warning I would give is to say avoid using liquids around the seam of the slab. If the seam isn't completely sealed capillary action will draw the liquid into the slab especially with the very low viscosity liquids like WD-40. If you have to use the liquids around the seam lightly dampen a paper towel and gently use that to work material loose.

I've used rubbing alcohol to remove tape off a NGC slab. A Q-Tip works rather well.

Rubbing alcohol did the trick with no residue or fading.

Russ was talking about some kind of buffer a while back. Check his old posts.
