Inspecting Coins question 2

OK, I have the new 3/6 lighted magnifier…thanks for the help!

I’m testing it out on my order of several SF proof silvers.

The first thing I see is that I can’t trust what I see when looking through the plastic capsules the coins are encased in.

So I take the coin out of the capsule, and I still see what looks like dust….

That’s right; it looks like dust directly on the coin….

I resist temptation to “blow” the dust off….

So what do I do next?

    No, don't blow on it!!

Droplets of Spittle does proof coins no good
    at all!!

Get one of those rubber things with a
bulb on the end that you mash and it
    blows small amounts of air.

Don't get an aerosol can of compressed
air either. You'll blow the coin half way
accross the room, and that wouldn't do
    the coin much good.

    Well, uh...yeah, I guess.
If you say it's one of those.

Actually this looks more like an enema bottle in the
shape of a bomb, but if you say it only squirts air,
then I want to believe you.

Just because I added some entertainment value to my
answer dosn't mean it wasn't good advice.

    a. Don't blow on the coin.

    b. Don't use an aerosol air spray.

    c. Do use one of those rubber squeeze things.

or, and I didn't give this option because it's obvious.

    d. Do nothing.

    Good advice all.

Many times I have received a coin from the mint that looked like it had a defect.Like you have said ..you took the coin out of the capsule and what next?!?!.Do you blow the dust off ??...NO..!!!
I solved that problem with a mini air compressor. It puts out just enough air pressure and not too much to blow everything away.It is used for air brush work and it works great for removing those little loose particles of plastic or what have you.

I always use an aerosol spray can. My proofs look wonderful.

I've had good luck holding the coin (while wearing powder free vinyl gloves) next to a vacuum cleaner hose to get rid of lint and dust. Just don't accidently let go image

There is another hair on the L of Liberty.

Are those small milk spots forming between 1 and 2 O'clock?
