1884-CC Morgan in a old PCGS "rattler"

I've been thinking about sending it to get it "re-entombed" in the newer PCGS holder. Any thoughts?

The newer holders look more airtight, but I have heard that some of the "rattlers" go for a premium now. True?

Just a thought....you could donate $30 to your favorite charity where it may do some good AND STILL have your 1884CC Morgan in a plastic slab.

Well, they go for a premium if the coin inside warrants it. I just upgraded an old rattler MS64 toned morgan into a PCGS MS66 (should be MS67). I'll post a photo later to prove it. There are deals to be had.

A bit of trouble if you just want a new holder of the same form factor as perhaps your others. If it is scratched to the point that viewing the coin is difficult or not pleasing, I guess it's worth doing at the right opportunity, like if you have others to do or you are at a show where they accept submissions as a simple request like that should be able to be done within the day in between the expensive show turnaround ones. If it is a VAM-7A and PCGS adds that one to the list, migh be worth it to get attributed.

If you are worried about it being airtite, the new holders aren't and you should probably just put it in an intercept shield holder and away from extreme temperatures.

Only if the coin warrants it. If you pay for plastic, with what is left in these holders (since most anything that could be upgraded has been from these holders), you are more likely to get burned than to score an upgrade.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. It seals the deal. She'll stay in the old holder. This coin is still untoned, blast white. It has to be an old GSA Morgan, I figure. Definite MS-63 as graded, maybe MS-64.

That soulds liek the best way. Isn't even worth going for an upgrade at the valuation and especially with the 63/64 spread. If it is indeed PQ and all, someone will eventually price it that way if you sell it I would think. But also eventually, someone who is not very good at math will try to upgrade it.

It'll be resubmitted after I'm dead and buried, more than likely. I've really caught this "CC thing" bad. I'd sell the other Morgans and every other coin I have, but I'd keep my CC Morgans. Damn CC Mint...j/k lol.
