Coins as jewelry

Are there any circumstances where you think being made into jewlery does NOT harm or can actually increase the value of a coin?

  • A common date Saint might go up a few bucks if you put it in a very nice bezel

It should be illegal to use coins in jewelry.

I disagree with both of you.

Although I always feel bad when I see an otherwise rare and valuable coin in jewelry, in many cases I think jewelry can enhace the beauty of a coin and add some interest.
  • No jewelry...please...

From Grandma's necklace...how sweet could this have been...*sigh*...

It still is sweet in my opinion, why did you take it out of the bezel if it was in one. A heirloom passed down from your grandma even in circ condition, should have more value to yourself then any mintstate one you can buy. JMO

It still has the emotional attachment - I won't sell it 'til I have to. And things would have to be pretty darn bad.

    Still have the bezel.

But it would be nice to see what it would have looked like without the jewelry box battle scars.
  • Sometimes with a quality enameling job on a common coin.

    A nicely done piece.

And this is one of the finest examples I have seen.

Condor I forgot all about enameled coins. I seem to remember a couple of years ago that in one of the larger auctions there was a nice collection of enameled coins. (For some reason I'm thinking it was a Stacks auction, so perhaps in one of the Ford Sales)

By any chance do you remember seeing these, and if so, do you remember the auction, so I can go back and peruse them.

    Thanks a bunch

  • I don't remember the auction you are talking about. The pieces I posted are in the upcoming DNW sale on Dec 13th.
    DNW sale
Under selection chose British Coins, and put "enamelled" in under Description and search. There are about twenty lots but only about half of them have images.

Wayne Herndon has some nice coin jewelry and whatnot on his site!

I picked up a cool money clip from him!

This makes perfect sense to me.
