I think I took a ride on the orient express !

I was looking at morgans newly listed ( bin ) and came across # 290055853252 .
This guy had about 18 different auctions going with just average coins , all bin for the
same price . When I seen this one , I snapped it up !

Fast forward to today.........I get a e-mail from some guy that has an oriental name
saying the item has shipped with a tracking # , which I look up and it's on it's way from
china !

The item is listed as being in Maine .

Oh well , live & learn !!

I'm not an expert at authenticating these things, but for what it's worth, it doesn't have that crappy, concrete look a lot of the cast fakes have, so it might be legit. The biggest warning sign to me is the fact that he hypes up the MS-66/67 angle, whereas the coin in this auction has no chance in hell of reaching that level.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

I would not hold my breath . image

    97.5% feedback ??

1890cc in AU would bring far more then $38.99 .

If its to good to be true .............. You know the rest !

and a wild ride at that
  • I've done okay (so far) on people with similar feedback (although your mileage may vary). There's something else I found in the auction that makes me suspicious, though:

<< <i>I have recently aquired a rather large coin collection that was partial payment to a lawyer who handled a large estate sale. >>

Something about that sounds suspect to me. The seller doesn't really talk about how he got the collection. Rather, he talks about the person before him (the lawyer). Wouldn't it be more normal to say, "I got this from a lawyer who walked into my shop, who got it from someone looking to settle a debt", or something similar?

  • Could it be a hijacked account?

No activity since March 06 and very little activity since before that.

The pictures look like they could have been lifted from other auctions since there is various backgrounds used in the photos in his other completed auctions.

I don't know....just throwing some observations out there.

I wish you luck on that one.

    Good luck!

    1) I don't like the pictures
    2) I don't like the "story"
    3) "I'm not an expert in grading" .... then "BU, AU, and PL" are explained
    4) As are "MS66, MS67, MS68"
    5) Going with #3 above, then "key dates" are listed....
    6) BIN under $39 and a $14 shipping fee....ummm.yeah.
    7) No return privileges listed

For the above reasons, even if it looked like a rip, I wouldn't trust it and I wouldn't do it.
If you do get it, and it is genuine, I hope it isn't harshly cleaned....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I noted his other dates included 1879-CC, 1889-CC, 1894, 1895, and 1901. From my experience buying groups of Morgans, usually these dates are the ones missing, not the ones included!

Good luck, hope it works out for you. If not, you might be able to get Paypal to do a chargeback, if he hasn't cleaned out the account by then.

PayPal only, no return policy, account says it's in the U.S. but you said it's shipping from China!

It sounds like you may not be getting the coin pictured!

Looks like a hijacked account to me. That is the way they operate. They usually list a bunch of items for the same bargain price for a short time then dissappear. The owner of this account does not seem to know that his account was hijacked. You should try to email the real owner of the account and let him know. You paid with paypal then you have some recourse. File a dispute and ask ebay what elseyou should do. Bob

If you click on the sellers profile it says he is ID verified. "For ID Verify you must:

Be a resident of the United States or U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, and Guam)."

If you paid with paypal can't you file a complaint and get it reveresed (assuming it isn't real). ???
  • I think I found this same guy doing this again

    E-Bay # 230059924565

The same lame story about how he got them , one day auctions
and low bin , with high shipping !
