Buffalo nickel sources are drying up!

How about some links to websites with large pics? Market grading is rampant in this series. Any help greatly appreciated!

Heritage, Teletrade, David Lawrence and eBay, dude. Market grading may be rampant, but there's no dearth of Buffs to choose from. The commercial sites--Heritage in particular--have large images to beat the band.

i don't see what you're describing taking place at all. perhaps that's because it's a specialty area for you that's watched more closely. i always tend to see droves of the coins in just about every auction and at every show i attend, a popular series that always on the mind of collectors. i may be out of touch, but i perceive the high prices for the coins more a function of demand than scarcity. the current Dallas Heritage auction has almost 100 lots.

as for the market grading, i think that would be better left to your judgement than mine, but with online auctions and websites i don't think either of is qualified to make that statement. this is indeed a series that's best looked at in-hand because of all the strike related issues.
  • My situation probably differs from many on this forum. My job as a third shift operations manager prevents me from pursuing my hobby in the conventional sense. Most of my purchasing is done online. My last excursion to a coin shop resulted in 7 purchases out of hundreds of searched coins. The problem wasn't as prevalent when I was pursuing mint state certified coins but now that I'm working on a VF-XF set acceptable coins are few and far between in my experience. Particularly now that I'm down to the '20's branch mint coins that have the worst striking issues.

    Many thanks for the ideas.

Market grading is so bad in this grade range that it's basicly accepted that a VF coin does not have a full horn.
